You do get the impression that he's the only announcer that can do TV work at the moment.
I think it's amusing that he's obviously delivering deliberately hammed up voiceovers much in the style of Voiceover Man from Steve Wright's Breakfast show.
I'd like to hear a few more contenders though, who are a bit more subtle in their delivery. Mitch Johnson appears to be exclusively for Real and Century Radio now. He's a great voice - fairly understated but still has the power to cut through. He was fantastic on Live & Kicking as well.

Yeah, where the bloody 'ell have you been?

I like Peter Dickson, and that's both professionally and as a person. Did some voiceover work for one of my Uni projects at one time [in his hammed up E4 style of course] and within 24hrs he recorded the items, emailed me them and wished me luck!
Not many A-List voiceover artists would be so eager to help a student would they really.

Brian Blessed and Tom Baker? Aren't they actors who do voiceover work occasionally?
Peter Dickson is a proper voiceover artist who has been doing ITV light entertainment for years
Due to his over the top X Factor intros, Peter is probably more famous than ever now and as much a part of The X Factor as Marcus Bentley is on Big Brother

It's like he's the only announcer for ANY television programme, and he is doing my head in. ITV couldn't afford Brian Blessed/Tom Baker, so decided to hire this guy. It's just boring, really really boring and tired.
Anyone else having the same problem?

And X-Factor makes a complete mockery of the music industry.
TBH I'd rather hear his voice (or Tom's or Brian's) than some of those over the top regional accents (and yes I also mean the fake London accents as well in case anyone thinks I'm being Northern Bias) which seem to have taken over.

Over the top works for the E4 promos though, but has made a complete mockery of The X Factor this year - the far more understated versions of previous years were so much better.

He did, of course, pick up a lot of Patrick Allen's work after he died in 2006. Patrick was the original E4 over the top voice.

Yes I know
hence why I made reference to it.
And I don't think anyone is questioning how professional or how lovely Mr Dickson is, just that he's a little over used at the moment.

Peter's a great, fun guy and I won't hear a bad word said against him.
...oh, and hello TV Forum, it's been a while
