Why is it this woman has become so popular? I still remember her from the show Mouse she did on Citv! I mean, (personally) I think shes talentless really. Confused

First, The Saturday Show then Top of the Pops Saturday then CBBC Top40, (not to mention every other kid show shes done) then a contestant on Fame Academy then warm-up with Edith Bowman at the Tsunami concert. And just the other night I saw her presenting a show on BBC2 called Geronimo!.

Is there no end?

Aside, She is a bit of a girl racer in my opinion, seeing her leave TV centre with subs booming and smoking like a chimney!

Not exactly a fan of her either.

She doesn't smoke does she? Urgh. I used to think she was attractive till I read that, but if there's one thing that can totally put me off a girl, it's being a smoker. It's vile and (depsite what many girls seem to think) it doesn't impress anyone- it has the reverse effect.

And as if the CBBC "Where's your head at" promos weren't bad enough - we now have to put up with some twit (who's probably only half her age!) swooning over her...

A 1960s Glo, dancing around in a nurse's outfit singing "A Spoonful of Sugar"? I could be tempted... Laughing

With that amount of kitsch I'm tempted myself.

Might have been something to do with her being blonde, attractive and barely out of her teens - and BBC execs being 30+... Laughing

Seriously, I too wonder why Fearne's rise has been so meteoric considering how she got into TV in the first place. Just an ordinary schoolgirl plucked to co-present Diggit (so I understand) and when she moved on to greater things, Paul Ballard was still doing Diggit and has now sunk without trace. He'd been to stage school so you couldn't blame him if he's a bit hacked off!

Mind you, there are too many so-called "celebrities" these days who end up in the limelight for totally the wrong reasons (Lizzy Bardsley, Jade Goody to name but a few). And the trained actors/presenters end up losing out.

I agree with you about these reality TV stars, and proper entertainers, that's the people with Talent and not just a loud mouth can't even get onto the TV!

As for Fearne Cotton she was picked to become a new presenter on the Disney Club (that used to be on Sundays 9.25am ITV (as it then was).) back in the days of Craig Doyle, infact it could have been the following series. There were 3 girls that were up for the choosing and viewers got to vote, Fearne won, ended up presenting Disney Club with Paul 'Des' Ballard, and Reggie Yates, and so when GMTV asked Disney to produce a live weekend morning programme (DiGGiT), Paul and Fearne were chosen, and were helped by Gail Porter for the first few weeks (whilst they got used to live TV).

Fearne then started to do programmes such as Draw your own toons, Mouse, Pump It Up, Petswap and then Fingertips for CiTV, and even appeared doing live links when presenters were away.

When working with the foundation on fingertips she moved on to do Eureka TV for CBBC. In 2002 as Michael & Liam left, Adrian moved on to the UK Top 40 and Angellica went to present the new 90 minute morning X Change on the CBBC Channel, Fearne & Ortis took over on CBBC One, and also presented Smile on Sunday mornings. They weren't that well loved on CBBC One, and so Angellica was moved back into Studio 9.

Fearne stuck with Smile, and in September 2002 was chosen to be the new face of the Saturday show along with Simon Grant. Her profile was boosted, and thanks to them including Top of The Pops Saturday on the Saturday Show, and then as a seperate entity she ended up presenting Top of The Pops. And now because of Top Of The Pops, she's also doing programmes like Geronimo on BBC Two.

Not bad for someone chosen by the public!
