The TCC thing was bizarre though, wasn't it? Didn't they just shut down one day without warning, even running a "see you tomorrow" trailer on the handover on the last day? And their website was still online for the best part of a decade.

And speaking of Cable & Wireless, I remember they used to cut into ad breaks on certain channels to run promotions for their own services, which I always found bizarre.

I recorded and added the last TCC closedown onto YouTube, and it was as broadcast. As that was a school day I pretty much only saw and taped the last junction. From memory I think no TCC trailers were ran that day. Certainly TCC’s closure was mentioned within some listings magazines and the likes of Wotsat at the time. Originally Wotsat reported that TCC would move to Bravo to air between 7am and 12pm. Where as Trouble extended its hours from 7am, I believe the only TCC show that moved over was Earthworm Jim. Everything else disappeared or ended up on other channels.

Cable & Wireless had a funny relationship with Flextech TV at this point. The inserted version of TCC was on air within about 10 days of the closure of the main one. We didn’t get Trouble from 7am, only 12pm. No TV Travel Shop either, it took until July 1999 for that to be added to CWC. By September 1998 they removed TCC outright, they also removed Trouble and Bravo. CWC told viewers they’d have to wait until Digital to get these channels back.

Anyway, going to return to topic and CWC, here another abnormality...

This also happened in our area (West London) which was initially Videotron before becoming CWC then NTL then of course Virgin.

The first I remember when Sky Digital started was MUTV, but I'm sure there would have been a more obscure one before that on local cable

MUTV was the first dedicated club channel, owned by Granada, Sky and Man Utd. ITV and Sky have since divested their interest and it's now 100% owned by Man Utd.

Boro TV went live one year before MUTV. However it was only available locally on Cable.

There was a channel labelled PPV on the Bell cable analogue system in Leeds, occasionally used for pay per view events. It was also used to carry a feed of live football from Elland Road, with local radio commentary added.

This was intended for use inside the stadium only, (in hospitality rooms etc) and should only have been receivable there, but on at least one occasion it went out in the clear.

Diamond Cable carried the German channel Sat1 for some reason- and they used that channel for PPV events (so if you wanted to watch German dubbed DS9 while a WWF event was on, you were out of luck!)

Nederland 1 (now NPO1) had from 1996 till 2000 a beautiful closedown. Very nicely done with the owl and the diamond! Smile

CWC had Sat.1 for a while which timeshares with TV5 Monde. So quite often it wasn’t uncommon for the changeovers to happen mid programme. Prior to Sat.1, they moved The Performance Channel to TV5, here’s a clip to demonstrate the above....

That is absolutely stunning. Beautiful music as well. I'm guessing from your username that you are Dutch? If so, welkom op het forum; otherwise, welcome!
