"What a classic"? More like What the bloody hell was that!

If that ever becomes a "classic" then I'm a monkey's uncle. Sometimes I wonder what the hell Nickelodeon was on in the 1990s presentation wise or whether they're just echoing what their sister channel was doing.

This is much better, albeit not a real closedown but what the hell:

TVNZ's famous 'Goodnight Kiwi' closedown:

And here's the Kiwi's last broadcast when they went 24 hour in 1994:

This one is pure art -- and perhaps the saddest bit of television presentation ever:

Have always thought Southern's final closedown was especially eerie, with the star flying off into space and the extended echo on the jingle…

On a related note, while in itself not a TV closedown as such, the last incarnation of the closing BBC Video Ident comes across as a bit sad with a star (I presume it was meant to be a star) left all on its own Sad

Yes, I've seen them before on other Westward videos, they used some Dutch TV advert bumpers for some reason (it even has the logo of the dutch advertising broadcaster on it!).

I would have expected Gus Honeybun to have done the honours - evidently it was past his bedtime!

The character's name is Loeki de Leeuw: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loeki_de_Leeuw.

A bit of background about how he ended up on Westward in this post from 2001:

From that post:

"By the autumn it is expected that West Country shops will be selling soft Loeki toys, Loeki T-shirts and even Lokeki Christmas cards. Before long there'll probably be a Loeki fan club."

Did that ever happen?
