The date in the clip is November 2001, no way they'd have had a manual TX suite by then

That sounds about right, I think Mer/HTV/Ang transferred to LNN spring/summer 2002, (ready for the October 28th 2002 'big bang'?)

I'm trying to remember the point 16:9 broadcasts were carried on Meridan 'properly' for the first one or two years most output was 4:3 /14:9 soggy PAL derived , only special occasions like international football matches, and big ticket LE was in 16:9 and no PAL iteration. There'd be manual patching at the start and end of each broadcast, and the ads in pillarbox. Didn't matter, the On Digital era signals were so patheticly powered in Meridian's region, it was only me watching anyway.

Not much of a serious breakdown but The Big Breakfast goes off air briefly in this clip from 02:02. Interestingly they stay on the same shot of the staircase the whole time. Did someone know they were going to go off for a short moment?

Was it a bit of a poor joke based on the lyrics about Nostradamus and the world ending?

Almost certainly, I'd say. (Wouldn't the clock be on the studio output rather than added by TX?)

That's what i thought at first viewing but i would have at least expected Johnny and Kelly to come back from that and say "gotchya" and then continue with the rest of the song.

I think the clock was added by Channel 4. There was an occasion on a Christmas pre-record where the regular BB clock failed and a temporary one in a similar font replaced it.

The clock was only added by Channel 4 during Christmas pre-recs.

Didn't someone on here say, rather complicatedly, on pre-recorded episodes the clock was sent down the line from Lock Keepers Cottages to Channel 4, who were playing out the pre-recorded episode, and it was the failure of that line which led to Channel 4 having to add their own clock?

IIRC it was the other way round, the tape was at C4 and was sent to a and through the cottages to add the clock

My mum recorded the janey Kirk show, on spotlight tv last night. Six minutes into the show, after a song had finished, it returned to Janey at home, and we hear her introducing ray carr, with a tune called alpine something.

But her lips are saying something different, as the tune starts playing while she's talking, and we eventually see someone else singing, but can't hear him. The song after that, the sound was the same as the song on screen, but was out of sync.

What's likely to have happened?

Either that’s a problem with the device this was captured with/from or C4 had a bit of a “green” problem just before the clocks were swapped!

Talking of green, remember this?

Would that have been a graphics issue that caused that?
Anglialad and james-2001 gave kudos

It could well be, notice how it first appears just where the caption strap normally is.

The Big Breakfast example might ot not be the graphics itself failing, if there is as mentioned above, a circuit involved taking it to Bow and back to add the clock then it could be that which is having issues. That said they fade it out very cleanly, if there was a hop via Bow then there would probably be a slight delay between the two
