Whatever about UGC, their predecessors, Virgin Cinemas, had a great ident:
I don't remember that UCI ident previous posted, but I do remember this one, which was one of the first cinema idents I saw (Ward Anderson never having much use for them nor any of the smaller Dublin cinemas which were still about at the time)
These days UCI's "idents" consist of shivering people in sleeping bags with messages to visit UCI.ie if you don't want to queue.
Ster Century had another great one but its successor Vue doesn't seem to bother with them.
This one's the best of the current crop, it was still in use last time I visited Cineworld but that's a while back at this stage:
that is very nice indeed. shame the environment map on the 'universal' text looks a bit out of place, way too many highlights.
I rather like the OTTness of the text. I've always been of the view if you're going to do lavish/extravagant graphics then you might as well do them properly.

Yeah I have to agree, its part of the ident (can you call it that?) for it to be OTT. Also not sure if anyone else has noticed but the light is in sync with the music when it reflects of the 'UNIV' of Universal. Very nice overall.

No sooner than I say this, than Vue launch a great new ident, using the word "Vue" in various ways and tieing with its new technology. No sign of it on YouTube that I can see.
And a new name coming to Irish cinemas, or rather the return of an old one that exited in the early 1980s - UCI Cinemas are changing their name to Odeon over the next few months, a change which already happened in the UK a few years ago but for some reason they didn't bother in Ireland until now.

Most changed from UCI to Odeon in 2004, no idea why the republic stuck with UCI for that long. Although UCI was always the cinema I went to as a child and I have nostalga for it, I feel that Odeon has a stronger brand associated with it.
