I am a big fan of the BBC Imagine art documentary series, for me it proves that television does not have to talk down to people, Alan Yentob is the presenter / interviewer and uses his extensive knowledge of the arts to raise a viewer knowledge up to his level.

He has a very subtle touch when interviewing, focusing on the subject of each documentary rather than himself. He covers all the seven arts - architecture, sculpture, painting, music, poetry, dance, performing (theatre/cinema) but also modern forms such photography or conceptual art.

There will always be an episode that you will be drawn to from your personal taste but many times I have watched one which I have no knowledge / interest in and found myself captivated.

I was wondering what episodes you like and why? For me the Anselm Kiefer episode was fascinating as he is a German artist not afraid to confront his countries past. He is very verbose but also passionate about his creative work which is wide ranging and beautiful.

My favourite episode was the one where the boss of a children's charity got a load of government cash, then attempted to pull the wool over everyone's eyes about exactly how it was being spent - before the whole enterprise crashed into pieces.

Don't know why Yentob asked more searching questions though..

Don't you just love it when a plan comes together?

My most recent favourite is probably the episode on Antony Gormley. A good overview of his career and the transition from his early work, based on his own human body, to his more recent work where our own bodies are effectively part of the art (such as 'Blind Light'). A good overall insight into his mind and the experiences that led to his work.

It does seem like Yentob tries to make himself as important as the person he's covering though, such as when showing a clip of Gormley winning the Turner Prize in 1994, we cut to a shot of Yentob sitting at a table looking into the camera! It came across a bit like "I was there!"

Did anyone else think the narration style on the recent documentary about Kids Company was very cliched and irritating? Spoilt it a little bit for me.

That's the sort of thing which has got many BBC faces in trouble!

I found it hard to watch old episodes in full as only a few are on iplayer and youtube - but found this site which is a good repository:

Now I am fully addicted.
