The music and soundtracks of TV idents are to my mind just as important and effective as what happens visually. At its best the music can be just as iconic as the visual symbol - think Channel 4's original logo, punctuated by Fourscore for example. With this in mind I thought it would be fun and interesting for people to have a place where they can talk about the musical motifs that have accompanied various idents over the years, and argue over personal favourites.

Let me kick things off by making my contribution and listing some jingles that I like but doubt anyone else will mention them.

A definite contender for the best jingle of all time in my view is the Channel 4 jingle. But not that one. Channel 4 has had three fantastic jingles during its life - Fourscore and the two lesser known examples below. (start 2nd video at 22:15)

The 1996 circles were accompanied by what I think is some awesome sound design (although I am more partial to ambient music than most), so kudos to whoever did that wherever they are, it works really well. The 1999 idents were originally soundtracked by this funky melodic tune that sounds quite nice and grabs your attention - 'Upstream' by D*Note:

And then perhaps a more obvious example: the 'with-fanfares-but-not-of-them' fanfare of the original TSW ident:

Many more examples I could mention, but what do you make of the ones I've listed off the top of my head? Good choices? Or am I mentally deranged? Write now!

No, sorry, write.... NOW.

Carlton's 1999 package not only looked good (and still does), it sounded brilliant too:

And of course, New Years:
