I'm surprised there's no trace of Chain Letters with Andrew O' Connor anywhere on the web.

I know nothing at all. Can't find anything for Allan Stewart either.

The hosts were as follows :

Series 1 - Jeremy Beadle
Series 2 - Andrew O'Connor
Series 3 & 4 - Allan Stewart
Series 5 - Ted Robbins
Series 6 - Vince Henderson
Series 7 - Dave Spikey

After Allan Stewart the show went on hiatus for about 4 and a half years before the Ted Robbins revival.

Did only Beadle get his name added into the theme tune? Very Happy

With Crosswits

Until the 94 the series went out at 09.25

1996
The eleventh series aired on Monday to Friday afternoons, but was not networked. Depending on the region, it aired at random times in certain areas.

* Carlton, Central, Tyne Tees, Westcountry and Yorkshire aired the episodes at 1:25pm.
* Ulster aired the episodes at 1:55pm.
* Grampian aired the episodes at 2:50pm.
* Scottish aired the episodes at 2:20pm four times a week and took until 31 December 1996 to complete.
* Border and Granada aired the episodes at 5:10pm, but did not follow the same daily pattern and took until 31 December 1996 to complete.
* Anglia and Meridian aired the episodes on most days at 12:55pm. Anglia continued to broadcast more episodes, finishing on 24 January 1997.
* HTV aired over half the episodes at 2:25pm, but did not complete.

1998
The twelfth series aired on Tuesday to Thursday afternoons at 1:50pm for the first 32 episodes from 6 January to 19 March. The last 3 episodes were aired from 21 to 23 December 1998.

Chain letters:

The first 25 episodes of Series 1, Series 4, 5 and 7 were all broadcast at 9:25am, the second half of Series 1 (which started on 4 January 1988) aired at 1:00pm (TVS and Channel moved the series to 3:00pm (but not every day), then dropped in February and reappeared over the summer), The show moved into peak time for series 2 and 3. These two series were not networked with a number of ITV companies airing the series either at 12:30pm (Grampian and Granada) or 5:15pm (Central and Anglia).

Scottish Television did not broadcast all episodes from Series 2 which was moved to the weekends, while Series 3 episodes were moved to Wednesday afternoon from January to March 1990.

Series 6 moved to a mid-afternoon slot but again was not networked, with the Granada and Border regions broadcasting episode after a few weeks at 5:10pm on certain days, which took until August to complete.

Surprising how long a run Supermarket Sweep got from the outset and maintained an annual slot plus got repeat runs too, something no other show really did.

Andrew had his name added to the theme. There was his version on the jingle mad forums a few years ago.

Unless I'm mistaken, Crosswits was originally a weekly show, airing at 6:30pm - only moving to 9:25am when Tom O'Connor took over from Barry Cryer as host.

Funny, though, that I have no memories of watching it in the afternoons in the mid-to-late '90s. I must have been in school or outdoors...

The 'Sweep was, of course, popular enough to survive when Vanessa and Trisha took over the 9:25 slot, though it never quite felt the same in the afternoon. I assume that when it ended, there was no "closing down sale" - in stark contrast to when it began:

I wonder if anyone ever kept the food that grabbed when they win or lose?

Winton always used to say they'd go home with the value of the goods in their trolley, typically a couple of hundred quid. No mention of the subtotals, so running around like a blue arsed fly after the shopping list, the pick-and-mix and whatever else on the side didn't increase the goods value.

People were rather stupid on that game, yes it was a max of three per item, but surely you could grab alot more of one person when after the bonus and the other person just went mad with the items,...

I do wonder if there were more rules than they let on, as while grabbing an inflatable was quick, it would surely be quicker and to just keep grabbing loads of stuff than spending ages trying to do Dale’s shopping list.

I also wonder how much the results were effected by the value of the inflatable, which was of course random and had no bearing on how good a strategy the teams had.

By the way, to this day if I ever have a shopping list of very mismatched random items, I always think of Dale’s shopping list.

Interesting to see how the scheduling changes over the decade, beginning with multiple series that didn't return for a couple of years, then moving towards certain shows having an annual slot, but still short runs, to ultimately three shows dominating with longer runs. Although no longer in the mornings, gameshows have now evolved to pretty much airing all year round.

Now C4 is leagues behind in the daytime stakes I wonder if morning gameshows could be a route to go down - mornings are a bit more stale than afternoons and I think either in the 9am hour or 11am hour (Homes Under the Hammer seems to be a monster!) there could be an opportunity.
