ive seen the current central east and west versions, and i must say i think theyre both(in my oppinion) in the running for best itv regional news

although theyre not particularily dissimilar, i do sense a different style about the two shows. west has 3 excellant main presenters holding the show together - which isnt the case (IMO) in the east, they havent quite got the dynamic it seems to me... ie, you could imagine bob, llewella, jo, bob hall and mark sitting round a table in a pub having a laugh, i dont sense that in the east (or on midlands today)

but it still has to be said west east and south are all great programmes.

The Central East region has had a lot of staffing problems this year. Marie Ashby has held the programme together well.
Llewela Bailey was her 'co-anchor'. Llew was good because her and Marie are old friends and they looked relaxed with each other. She left to present the Birmingham edition instead when Dan Barton, Central News East Editor defected to there. Since then, reporter Jonathan Ray has presented with Marie at Six. He left the East region to join the Birmingham team in mid-October. He now can be seen presenting some Central News West bulletins. Reporter and programme Producer Sarah Teale has become Marie's latest side-kick. She is pregnant, and will no doubt take maternity leave from December. This leaves Marie with no obvious other presenter. Annabel Tiffin from Central News' weekend team presents with Marie every Friday at Six.

The theme tune in the West is a 'spin-off' from the East's. It has had an extra added drum beat to the tune for the West, and this version is not quite as long. The West's version to me doesn't come across as being as tuneful, or as important. The East's original version was great when it first came out last December, but maybe now could do with refreshing.
Central News was best when it was relaunched last December after Marie came back from her maternity leave to present with Llewela.

My choice:
1 Anglia News - best set, music and presentation, good mix of stories
2 - Tyne Tees News / NE Tonight - again quality product and a certain Ms Gatenby
3 - Meridian News - cos I can pretend I'm watching ice hockey with that set! Also good presenters Geoff and Sue
4 - London Tonight - gotta love that view...
5 - Channel Report - truly local news!

OK, I'll admit. Calendar was good when Richard Whiteley was presenting it!

You're joking arn't you?

Have a look at some clips on TV ARK etc.

He's just like he is on Countdown

'Erm..Hello and erm welcome to..erm the YTV Studio in Leeds...this is wednesdays edition of Calendar...'

How he ever coped with the serious news I can't imagine.

It seems Calendar always has strong female presenters, but the male anchors (yes, not to be confused with a word on a famous Countdown outtake:D ) seem to be lacking something

I really like Richard Whiteley. He's the old fashioned incompetent regional presenter! He's very reminiscent of the TTTV announcer Bill Steel (who did present TTTV's local news programmes 'Today at Six' and 'Northern Life' for a number of years, funnily enough), who also used to umm and aar his way through everything, but you couldn't help but like the bloke Wink

I like Richard's out-take (which I saw live) where he called that boy band 'Five Guys' (or summat, don't remember the name), 'Five Gays'! Classic TV Wink

I've ditched London Tonight for HTV Wales News with a smattering of Calendar and a pinch of Anglia News (if it was Anglia News East I'd watch it a lot more - hint hint Sky)

There's currently a school of thought which says Anglia East may also make it on to Sky Digital....

Can someone clarify something for me?

How is it that some people are saying all ITV regional news programmes are available to everyone, and some people are saying its postcoded and you can only get three or four depending on where you live? What are the facts?

When I get Sky Digital a week tomorrow (YES!), what is the channel that will provide me with all the regions, if this is possible? Can someone either e-mail pr PM me with instructions?

On the 'Sky Guide' interface, You've got ITV1 Yorkshire on Number 103.
Some people are also lucky enough to get other regions on numbers 963 and 964.
This is postcoded.

Currently all the regions are available in the 'Add Channels/Other Channels' area, Which is not a user-friendly part of the Electronic Programme Guide.
This is where the 'tests' were going on.

These are expected to be encrypted eventually, leaving 103 and 963/964 the only ones people can see.

Hopefully they won't encrypt the other regions. Calender News is the best I've found, then London Tonight & then probably HTV News!Very Happy
