Being as though Father Ted was first aired in April 1995 and it's 10th anniversary is rapidly approaching, I was wondering if anyone new about any special programmes that will be shown in April to mark it. There should be, because it really was a fantastic comedy show - the best of of the 90s IMO.

I loved Father Ted. My favourite one was when they were lost in the women's underwear section! Absolutely hilarious! Laughing

Feck! I love to see a Father Ted spin off, maybe with Mrs Doyle. I can imagine her having a strange family.

I think she had some the best lines too: "Get your bollocks out of my face" & "He just wants to put his big tool in my box" are two classics I can recall.

Well seeing as though Channel 4 love linking to the past rather than the present (i.e. The 100 greatest....) I think they might do something special.

Shame it's not a BBC program otherwise there might of been a UKTV Gold weekend dedicated to it.

Ten Years! Makes you think, I can still remember watching the first one, didn't find it that funny then, because I was 8. Laughing But watching it over and over again it does realise it is a gem and quite rightly they were right to stop when they did, as they have 25 great episodes.

It must be saying something good about it, if E4 is showing a 10 year old Channel 4 sitcom on a Saturday night! (That isn't Friends)

I wouldn't expect much really, E4 should do a Weekend or do a documentary about it. But for the inside stuff, it's worth getting the DVD's, as the first three have commentary by Graham Lineman (creator) and one of the DVD's also had Ardol O Hanlon too.

Father Ted is fantastic & deserves a "10 year anniversary celebration"

However I keep wondering why Channel 4 keep forgetting the equally brilliant "Desmond's". There have been no DVD releases of this series & no decent repeats.

The last time it was repeated was at 3am in 2000.

Come on Channel 4 give this comedy the respected it deserves, Father Ted does

IIRC, Paramount Comedy repeated both Desmonds and Father Ted a few years ago, I even remember they had a '4 Comedy on Paramount' ident. But since E4 came along Father Ted hasn't been shown on a non-Channel 4 channel.

They should give Desmonds a rerun or something, 3.00am is bad, but I would have thought say teatime on E4 would do fine. Though going back to 10 years, it has been over 10 years now since Desmonds ended, I even remember watching the last episode, and it was followed by a tribute to Norman Beaton, who died a few days before they showed the episode.

Porkpie was a good spin off, but the last time that was seen, was on Channel 4 at 3.00am. Rolling Eyes

Father Ted was brilliant. It was very sad that Dermot Morgan died. I expect they could have continued with a few more series.

Apparently the last episode of Series 3 wasn't the final one, afterall Series 2 had 11 episodes (including the xmas episdoe)

I heard somewhere they had a couple of more to make, hence the strange & sudden ending

That's News to me, I heard they had an Alternative ending for the last episode, where Ted goes to America, detail of it is on TV To Me somewhere. I knew at the time that Series 3 was to be the last, and Channel 4 delayed the Premiere of Series 3 for a week, due to Dermot's death. I even remember they had billboards promoting it, which came down IIRC.

Give Father Paul Stone his own series.

No the last episode was the last episode of the series and it was decided that it would be the last ever long before Dermot died. The only thing that changed was the very last scene, which was replaced with a montage of highlights.
