To most people the name Grandstand conjuers up an idea of show that shows multiple sports but in today's era of MONEY where sports can cherry pick which broadcaster they go with then the idea of a multi-sports programme can no longer be sustainable .
Don't get me wrong, I, to, will miss Grandstand but times have changed, greed has set in and the way people watch sports has changed (and I do put that down to multi-channel TV but that started long before the digital revolution!!!).
The question is, "What sport do you associated the name Grandstand with?" With MOTD, Final Score and FF it is easy as it is Football. Grandstand has no definite sport. IMHO the only way the Grandstand name could survive in the future is for very special sporting events such as The Olympics or Commonwealth Games. Even The World Cup now comes under the MOTD banner!!!!

Readers of the main BBC Sport Forum will be aware of my feelings about the end of Grandstand.
I had a feeling this was imminent to be honest - its a perfect opportunity to axe the brand with the Six Nations starting next week. It's a shame Grandstand won't see a 50th Birthday edition.
I really hope it gets a good send-off tomorrow.
The World Indoor Bowls Final, European Figure Skating, Rugby Union Highlights and Ski Sunday is how almost 49 years will finish and, if RT is correct, Clare Balding will be the final presenter (however according to the website, it'll be John Inverdale and Sue Barker, which would be more appropriate).
A request: it would be much appreciated if someone could upload the final opening and closing of the programme tomorrow, in a format that can be saved! I dont have the capability myself, and my DVD recorder is a bit up-the-left at the moment!
Farewell Grandstand. You'll be missed. And whether you liked it or loathed it, Saturday and Sunday afternoon TV won't be the same again.

I would imagine they will do a montage at the end of the programme... first programme, highlights, presenters etc. If not a big opportunity missed when the final whistle is blown on Grandstand.

The main Saturday edition finished like a wet lettuce as it was Saturday Grandstand which was the main show and yet no retrospective clips - shame on you BBC.
Sunday Grandstand was never as popular as the Saturday one and if they show the clips on the show then the BBC has done has big massive dis-service to the loyal viewers - Shame on you BBC!

Though the last actual "Grandstand" ended with just one line from Hazel along the lines of it being "a privilege to steer the mothership" - and then cut to Ray for the football

If it was the right decision the presenters wouldn't be having to justify it with lines like "time moves on".
It seems even more pointless when they say don't worry, BBC Sport continues on Saturdays and Sundays.
So what happens now if a major sport story breaks - but the BBC aren't showing that sport in the afternoon. Most recent example would be the death of snooker player Paul Hunter - naturally covered in Grandstand, but they couldn't justify it being tied in with something like live rugby coverage.
And talking of that - I suppose the positive is now it's "Six Nations" and not Grandstand, we won't have to put up with the football scoreflashes during the coverage, will we?
P.S. Tribute at the end of tonight's show from around 5.20pm.

WATCH THIS SPACE - I bet Score has more of an impact on Saturday from now on and I bet there will be some sort of Sports news programme just before or just Final Score.

A great compilation of clips but then a short looped version of the theme music at the end.
Bye bye Grandstand.
