15 minutes of national news and half a flippin hour for regional news?

Just like it was before 1999:

in this day and age, if TV company need NEWS in peak time to fill up the listing there must be something very wrong

Well, my thoughts are that I hope you never get a job at ITV1 scheduling! Wink

I see no reason to move the Evening News at all - especially not to make way for a tacky cheap 30-minute game show.

Yes, a few more gameshows in the schedule would be nice - but they need to be quality shows, and more a case of one a week, not one a night!

It's the 8pm slot which is ideal to try out some gameshows in - perhaps freeing up the post-Corrie slot on Wednesday by moving one edition of The Bill to 9pm (and hence solving that nights 9pm drama problem!).

Then after a few months if they've got two or three formats out of it that should perform well in the slot any night of the week, they can then begin to consider the more streamlined scheduling of the 7pm soap hour, 8pm game shows / entertainment and 9pm dramas.

Brekkie you have grown more conservative in your thinking, in a mid-life crisis are we? Wink I suppose you are right, but even still I have issues with the Regional News actually going out before the National bulletin. I think ITV should just take the bull by the horns and go head to head with the BBC now.

Daytime
09:25 Jeremy Kyle
10:30 This Morning
12:30 The Royal Today
13:00 ITV News at One
13:30 Loose Women
14:30 Dickinson's Real Deal
15:00 The Alan Titchmarsh Show
16:00 Wish You Were Here
16:30 The Royal Today
17:00 Golden Balls

Peaktime
18:00 ITV News at Six
18:30 Regional Bulletins
19:00 Emmerdale
19:30 Coronation Street

20:00
Can be used for stripping I'm a Celebrity / Britain's Got Talent etc across the week.
- Monday hour for Tonight (against 'Enders and Panorama, no brainer);
- Tuesday for gameshows like Duel;
- Wednesday and Thursday for The Bill (which moves to 9pm on Wednesdays during reality shows);
- Friday for Midsomer Murders or other shows.

21:00
Standard dramas - The Fixer, Moving Wallpaper, Echo Beach, Taggart, Doc Martin etc.

ITV will always lose the News battle but I do agree the overall audience for News will grow and it will simply allow for there to be more scope for competition in non-news slots. And it means National News is always first, followed by Regional News.

That might be your personal preference - but there is no logic to it at all. For the households who've watched the news mainly on ITV1 for years it wouldn't be right having the local bulletin AFTER the national news.

Head to head though ITV Regional News would lose out against the BBC - but with the Evening News they're competitive - and can also get an audience the BBC can't due to people arriving home at staggered times throughout the evening - so get the viewers who miss the Six o'clock News, but aren't bright enough to watch C4 News!

And though perhaps not spectacular, the Evening News provides a solid lead-in for Emmerdale each night, which is absolutely crucial if you're planning a 7pm soap hour.

I see ITV have picked up the second run rights to FX's Dexter, to air on ITV4 and ITV1 next year.

I guess this will be something in the post-News at Ten slot.

It's season 1 they've picked up the rights too. FX will still premiere each season, but then ITV get the second run rights, which is basically how it used to work with most US series a few years ago.

That's brilliant news. Dexter is a superb show.

An idea for Friday nights, how about Pushing Daisies (it is going on ITV1 right?) and Dexter back to back from 9pm, followed by the Weekend News at 11pm?
