peter Gadd (jack Wolley in the archers) was my college video tutor back in the late 80's, he used to disapear every other week to record the archers so I cheekly asked if we (the class) could visit pebble mill and he said yes. We didn't see the archers being recorded obviously but we saw the studios as well as pebble mill at one set and telly addics set, covered in dust sheets, had we gone the day before we could have been in the audience.
am really really pissed I didn't think to take my camera, especially now considering what has happened to pebble mill
sad irony is I know exactly what day I went because on the way home news was breaking of a fire at kings cross station, so it was 18th November 1987
John McArdle came to my college to talk about acting,
Helen Worth in Manchester M&S when i was a child, with my Mam saying look it's gail tilsley and me thinking who?
the Arch Bishop of Canterbury (Ronald Runcie) again as a child, this time with my Dad and again I had no idea who Dad was on about
royals have been the queen mother opening barkers shoe factory in earls barton northampton in 1987, prince charles visiting newport on the isle of wight in 1999 and camilla when she launched the astue submarine in barrow-in-furness in 2007
I think this is a good topic because not all of us members work in television, just have an interest in it's production
sorry forgot probably the most famous person you can meet if you're Catholic
The Pope in 1982, with a few thousand other people at coventry airport, also meant the once in a lifetime experience of walking down the closed A45 duel carriageway at 2am from where the coaches were parked to the airfield

I saw weatherman
Michael Fish
at BBC Future World, Bristol on Friday 6 October 2000. That day he happened to give a talk about the history of meteorology and the use of present day technology at both the Meteorological Office and BBC.

I got my photo taken with cycling journalist Phil Liggitt, at the 1999 Tour of Britain finale, in Edinburgh. He was doing the commentary for channel 4. As a bonus, his co-commentator, Paul Sherwin, took the photo!

I once shared a plane with Christiane Amanpour -- I was on the way to Slovenia; she was headed on to Bosnia via Croatia (the Bosnian War was still on at the time). She looked much shorter than I expected.
Walter Cronkite once lectured to my class and I got to ask him a question.
That's about it when it comes to famous TV people. If we also count famous people sometimes seen on television:
I sat one row behind John McCain on a US domestic flight (in Economy Class, mind you).
I've exchanged letters and books with Bill Bryson. (He's a genuinely nice person.)
My father served as the official guide to Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins, and Buzz Aldrin when they visited Slovenia a few years after Apollo 11.
