Is there any reason why Family Guy is Season 13 in the States and Season 15 here? Or is it because of the Region 2 DVD releases that saw broadcast seasons split over two volumes?

Season 15 to us (or Season 13 as it is referred to in the USA) starts soon on BBC 3 and they also have access to all the previous seasons before that until 2017.

The only Family Guy you'll see on ITV 2 is Season 16 (Season 14 to the USA) and every new season after that (and repeats of them). Presumably they will get access to Seasons 1-15 after 2017 when the rights for the BBC expire.

They also have all the back catalogue of American Dad and every new series made from here on and also all 4 seasons of The Cleveland Show.

So, essentially, you'll see a lot of American Dad and Cleveland on ITV 2 for the next 2 years, then they will cram loads of Family Guy in when they get access to hundreds of old episodes in 2 years.

Is that fact or conjecture? There seems to be this weird accepted knowledge that imports of the same series can't be shown across two networks despite many examples of exactly that...

The ITV press release only mentioned new episodes of Family Guy, it was particularly noticeable as they referred to back episodes of the other shows.

Season 13 (in the US - Season 15 in the UK) started broadcasting in September 2014 in the US and is due to start on BBC 3 soon. This we know is true.

Season 14 (in the US - Season 16 in the UK) is due to start broadcasting around September 2015 in the US and likely shortly after on ITV 2, which means it will get a much closer to the US broadcast date than we have had before. This is my own well educated guess on the subject, but I can't see how it would be any different to this to be honest. I don't see ITV 2 and BBC 3 showing the same series at the same time being a possibility.

BBC3 may do double bills throughout the season to get it out of the way before the channel (potentially) closes as a linear outlet.

^They also won't want to still be airing it when ITV's rights kick in (and they could well be, given that they have five months to air more than 20 episodes). Fans won't be pleased if there's an overlap, especially if ITV plan to use a similar timeslot.
