Ch4 is apparently reviving the show, but with celebrities and their families.
They're also keen to bring back Mr & Mrs and Celebrity Squares!

Here's the full article from The Mirror

CAN you believe it has been three years since ITV canned Family Fortunes? (Our survey says uuh uhh.) Well, it has - and now the show is all set to return... with a few changes.

Firstly, it will be on Channel 4 and, secondly, like most programmes these days, it will have the word "Celebrity" in front of it.

Yup, rather than have Joe Public taking part, the all-new version will only feature stars and their families.

But who'll host it? Well, after much searching, bosses have lined up none other than Dame Edna Everage to step into Les Dennis's old shoes.

There is one hitch though - the Australian "housewife-turned-megastar" is a bit tied up at the moment. So it looks as if TV chiefs might have to put the show on ice until the, ahem, "lady" has a window in her diary.

Our spy tells us: "The problem is that Dame Edna's Broadway show, Back With A Vengeance, has done really well and its run has been extended until June. She'd agreed to do Celebrity Family Fortunes in principle, so bosses now have to decide whether to wait for her or get someone else."

Other early candidates for the job had included Vic Reeves and funnyman Bill Bailey but our source adds: "They are still keen to get Dame Edna and even flew out to New York to try to find a way round the problem.

"Unfortunately, there isn't much they can do before the summer."

Of course, this isn't the first time celebs have been panellists on the show - there were a couple of specials in 2001.

One memorably pitched EastEnders against Corrie - when Sid Owen was asked what men do to prepare for a date, he answered: "Take Viagra."

But it isn't just Family Fortunes that is staging a comeback... Bosses at retro-tastic C4 are also keen to breathe new life into Mr And Mrs (again) and Celebrity Squares.

Break out the flares, the 70s are upon us once more...

Oh dear. What's the likelihood with Channel 4 at the helm of these quiz show revivals they will give them an "ironic" twist and a certain Mr J Carr will be involved somewhere along the line?

And wasn't the Mr and Mrs revival with Julian Clary and Paul Young's wife a bit of a flop? Surely if it didn't succeed before so is there any use in flogging a dead horse?

Come to think of it, that's wasn't the only Mr and Mrs revival, anyone remember the mid 1990s one, a HTV and UK Living (as it was then) co-production, hosted by Nino Ferreto (I think that was his surname!) and Kathryn Buchanan?

Has April fools day come early?

This sound very unlikely - extremly unlikely in fact. The only way I could see C4 doing this is if they did a special "Gameshow night" or something with a one-off special!

Nothing surprises me where ch4 is concerned these days. 5 years ago, never in a million years would i have thought i'd ever see Richard & Judy on britain's supposedly hip, ground breaking - risk taking channel. It it is true i can't see these shows anywhere but the 4-5 slot . So this time next year the line up could possibly be

3.15 Countdown
4.00 "Celebrity" Family Fortunes
4.30 Mr & Mrs
5.00 Richard & Judy

Should keep the OAP's happy, and i imagine the easily pleased Paul O'Grady/Des & Mel fans

After posting here I read an article in our local TV guide about Channel 4 planning the "Degeneration Game", a late-night spoof of the Generation Game with a much more adult twist.

I guess then C4 plan some kind of game show season - I can't see these being serious commissions!

Well I'd imagine Celebrity Family Fortunes would be pushing more for the comedy answers (dare I even say rude answers) and would fit somewhere into the Friday night line-up. Particularly with the choice of host it sounds that it will be more of a p*ss-take of itself than anything else.

This is odd. A game show being revived on another channel, but this time with a transvestyte host. Reminds me of Blankety Blank!

It will be INTERESTING to see, i'll say that much. I wonder if they'll keep the big "train timetable" screen and the fantastic old fashioned sound effects. I love the "wrong answer" sound effect, that is a classic.
