Anyone upset about this then ?

Five announcing they are scrapping their daily soap and intend to reinvest the £13m a year in new comedy and drama.

TV Forum favourite, Lorraine Heggessey (in her role at Talkback Thames) had to break the news to cast and crew.

All the info at MediaGuardian.

I've seen a quote from the lady, somewhere, where she says she had "exciting" plans for "new characters and storylines" for the series, which rather inclines me to wonder whether five decided to pull it before her hand on the tiller made it go the way of EastEnders?

Cant really say I'm surprised, its been on the cards for at least the past four years or so.

Well it's a shame in that so many jobs have been lost and no-one likes to see an institution fail, and being the one constant in the five schedule for 8 years does kinda make it an institution, even if only over 2-3% of us know it exists!

Hopefully now it'll bow out in style, maybe the characters could die on board a boat again? Either way I expect the exterior set to remain perfectly intact, no doubt appearing in The Bill and so on over the next few years.

You must be joking, that brings in more viewers than Family Affairs, I doubt they'll give that up just yet.

Home And Away and the CSI programmes are probably Fives most popular programmes. For the forseeble future, H&A is staying put.

Although I've never watched Family Affairs before I think that it's a shame thats it's going because it was one of the better soaps and launched actors into a very busy career.

I do think thats this is time for a re-vamp of the 6pm schedule which is looing very tired now. I'd like to see an american soap come to five again like The Bold and the Beautiful or Sunset Beach moved back to a prime slot. Something like this:
6:00: Sunset Beach/Bold and the Beautiful
6:45: Home and Away
7:15: Five News
7:30: (normal scheduling)

This way, having a longer soap until 6:45 will hopefully keep viewers tuned to five instead of Holyoaks.

Er, yes because some repeats of a trashy American soap will hammer the ever successful Hollyoaks... Way to go kill a schedule stone dead. Very Happy

Oh dear wasn't Family Affairs to be Jack Ryders big tv come back.

I must admit i quite like the show although the storylines are awful .
