Given a choice bewteen commissioning and/or buying rights to shows or just playing out a programme during what is considered a dead period anyway (and considerably cheaper), I'd know which I'd pick if I was in the programming department.

Did anyone catch the last episode?

Yeah I saw it but I havent watched the show in years so don't know any character names or plots. It ended with the cast doing Auld Lyne Syne to fireworks. The best bit was the continuity annoucer thanking all the cast and crew for a brilliant near 9 years although kinda lost when he told us that Joey is on next week!

Best bit - but also the worst bit! They could have let the final credits play out uninterupted!

Haven't seen FA for ages so didn't know anyone - and it went out more with a wimper than a bang! Not a patch on the end of Brookside!

Really? I thought it was an excellent ending. Far better than the end of Brookside which was boring. It was great that Eileen came back for the final episode. The Costellos ending was very "and they all lived happily ever after" however after the amount of problems they have had this year they deserved it. I thought most of the loose ends were tied up nicely. Its a shame we wont find out what happened to Katie who was being held hostage by Rex in the pub.

Well, as I said I'm not a fan and this is the first episode I've watched really since they blew the original family up on the boat, while I did watch Brookside quite a bit, especially as it neared it's end.

As a neutral I thought it was disapointing and wasn't the event I thought it might be - though I'm guessing your saying for the fans of the show it wrapped things up nicely.

Well I felt the storyline with Katie was left on a cliffhanger but other than that everything was wrapped up.

I first watched it when the Hart family were killed off in 1999 and have watched ever since. The last 18 months have been the best ever though, unlike Brookside which was terrible for its final year IMO.

Why did Family Affairs finish-was it due to dwindling ratings?

A quick google reveals that Director of Programmes Dan Chambers felt that 'it had reached the end of its natural time span'.
I think its all part of Five distancing itself from its earlier incarnation under Dawn Airie. It does seem to be a very different , more upmarket channel these days...from its programme schedule to its on air look, idents, trailers and announcers.

I have asked Five if they would put a clip on their website, but they replyed saying they no longer held any rights to the show.

I expect we might see the set pop up in the Bill.
