Familiar ident music samples heard elsewhere

Examples of music and samples in idents / pres that have cropped up in other places.

The topic has been archived, so I've created a new one for the odd update.

First, on the subject of the original post - was recently noted that Beetroot uploaded the Toyota / Sunroof track to their Soundcloud - which confirms it as their work, albeit not bespoke for the channel... Labelled as 'BBC 2 Ident', but it's the full version of the music from the 1997 Toyota ad.

Another spot of that flute trill sound heard in the BBC 2 Balloon ident - but used within another piece of BBC 2's own pres, and from the same time... A Picasso Season trail from early 1994.



See 0:24 - it's been pitched up. Pretty much beyond doubt that it's from a 1990s sample disc, but still haven't managed to identify the source...

To include something previously spotted here: the original BBC One Helicopter ident music bears remarkable similarities to the opening piece from Sweeney Todd (2006) - interesting as that isn't a re-use per se, but they share an identical set of sounds - same instruments, vocal performance and key. As if taken from the same session or sound set.

Fast forward to a few days ago: an episode of Coast aired with a familiar (and quite eerie) sound - heard at around 40:32 - very reminiscent of the start of this one...

The music in this scene from Walking with Beasts at around 00:47 sounds quite similar to the Gorilla ident as well.

Overlooked this before - well spotted! It's the same sample for sure. Thanks for that.


The use in Gorilla precedes this also, so unless / until it crops up in an earlier source, I'm guessing the sample was fairly new around the late 1990s or so.

Didn't Quiz Call use the Tyne Tees Music as their winner sound as herd here at the end?

I wouldn't be surprised. That jingle has been around. I think a radio station on Grand Theft Auto uses it.

That was the Channel 3 North East jingle originally wasn't it?

I'm sure this was discussed in the previous thread. It was used as part of the Channel 3 North East ident, and appears to be a library sound effect; ASDA used it in an advert a year or two ago, Sky used it as a sting for a short on Sky News too. I don't think the whole piece in the ident is library.
