Quiz Call would often use a sound effect which sounded like the end of this ident:

Wasn't this jingle also used on a video-game of some sort?

Grand Theft Auto on the PS1

Go to 6:24 and it sounds rather similar to the end of the C3NE ident, it may even be a sample from it, Rockstar were based up North weren't they? (The game was at one stage credited to Rockstar North)

Always thought it sounded EXACTLY like the Sky News theme of 1996ish

Thanks Johnny - that's the one I was thinking of. It's definitely the same track - probably library.

My God, wasn't that C3NE ident dire?

A surprising number of people actually like it (as a piece of design of its time).

I don't understand these people.

The game was made by DMA Design in 1996, D standing for Dundee, when Take2Interactive took over in 2000 they moved to bigger premises in Edinburgh and changed to Rockstar North, with Rockstar Games being the publisher.

The trouble was, it wasn't really 'of its time'. It looked desperately dated right from its launch in 1996 when you consider what other channels were using at the time - Central's latter 'cake' idents, BBC2's Lambie Nairn '2's, Sky's 'tombstone' idents, LWT's 'smoke' ident... the list goes on.

On the subject of the C3NE music, well it seems the new Asda adverts are using the same music.

Murnaghan on Sky News also uses a similar jingle to North East Tonight of the era on C3NE.

I'm currently hunting for an example. Wink

EDIT: Blimey this took some searching through my little archive. It appears I know the theme tune (or elements of) from the short-lived 'Network North' programme. It was a sub-region of Tyne-Tees which encompassed the Northern part of Yorkshire TV's region back in the early 90s, and was a different arrangement of the usual 'Tyne Tees Today/Tonight' theme.

I only found it in a 'RealMedia' file format, and it doesn't transfer well, hey ho!

But you get the jist of the music . . . Wink

I knew it was British based somewhere north of Enfield Wink I forgot the first one was made by DMA.

Not too far removed from its original source but I remember the BBC1 Balloon ident music playing on Pages from Ceefax one night, around 2002-3.

Is ASDA now using the C3NE jingle also?
