Yep, the chopsticks logo has returned to Border with Granada's generic end caption (seen at the end of Border News). Someone at Granada does have some sense then!
Cool. The return of ITV's oldest surviving logo. It's going to seem a little strange though when the logo makes its full return though, don't you think? It hasn't been on-screen now for 2 and a half years, and the Tyne Tees one certainly looked a little strange when they brought it back...
Of course, the days of the hearts must surely be numbered now. Of 6 stations who still show them in their standard form, a third of them (Border and Tyne Tees) now have the wrong logo displayed. Tsk!
Wonder if Border will now get a squashed-B dog on regional trails? It's also occurred to me that Granada are the only ITV company to have kept all their regional symbols relatively untouched since 1993....
This has set me thinking. If Granada and Carlton do merge, and Granada ends up buying SMG's franchises, just think of the fun they could have bringing back the old logos. We could see Central's cake, Anglia's knight, Scottish's thistle and Grampian's saltire - 2002-style!
It looks really good in the GMG purple style. But I bet the blue/ITV1/rotating hearts (etc) idents haven't been suitably amended!
Well they never bothered to update the Tyne Tees ident so I doubt very much that they'll do this one. Why did this purple endcap take so long to get made. If they're all made from a template, and they were just going to bring back the old logo for Border, then why not make them and introduce them at the same time as they other purple endcap.
It's definately one of the better purple endcaps. I really hope LWT's doesn't last long. It's awful. The LWT logo is designed to appear big and in colour, not monochrome and squashed into a tiny little box. You only need to take one look at it to see that it doesn't work.
We should email Granada and congratulate them on the decision -
Considering the new logos will be in the design stages
at the moment, before they are made, ready for their Autumn launch, it might have an impact on a decision to keep regional logos and names.
