Forgive the journalistic pun but do any of you feel like nominating people for membership of the Lame Academy?

Nell McAndrew was photographed at the premier of The Italian Job and I have noticed that she'll go to the opening of an envelope.

A couple of years ago I was asked to get involved in a TV series, one of the names booked to present it was Ms McAndrew.

"Whoar, well, Nell's up for it, a good laugh" said the producer. Mmm, such a compelling argument, I made a polite excuse and a strategic withdrawal.

There appears to be a direct correlation between the lesser the fame, the greater the ego.

So, who else is a legend and star in their own mind or in the imagination of the PR people?

Ulrika isn't exactly fame hungry is she. As for the Beckhams, yes, I'm sick of them, but they are famous - Beckham is (or was?) a good footballer turned fashion star/ponse and Victoria was in one of the biggest girl bands ever so they have rightly deserved their fame I guess.

Celebrities are always an interesting issue. Michael Jackson (for example) is famous because of his talent and therefore a well deserved celebrity. Actors and actresses (for example Kate Winslet) also deserve their recognition.

Singers slot into the middle because some don't write their own songs and are therefore less celebrityworth than others. David Bowie and David Byrne write and sing their own songs, are still going strong today and also deserve their fame. SClub7 however do not write their own songs, and therefore whilst good singers, do not have that extra talent (and if you did a survery of "Who is Bradley (... don't even know his surname" or "Who is David Bowie" I'm sure the results would agree with what I'm saying.

That's not to say people who don't write their own songs shouldn't be famous - if you have a brilliant songwriting talent, but cannot sing, should your songs never be heard? Of course not.

Next in the list are 'Melanie Sykes's' who don't crave fame - they just want to do their job. In most cases they are good at it and therefore achieve fame - but don't become quite as famous as movie stars and singers.

At the bottom of the list are Tara Palmer-Tompkinsons and The Royals who are annoying, not very talented and are only famous by some amazing stroke of luck. They irritate me. However, someone has to be gunged, beaten up and starve in the jungle for our entertainment, so who better than z-listers to do this.
