He does drivetimes on 95.8 Capital FM too, as well as swing for Chris Tarrant. In additon, all 4 people on Pop Idol are known - I recognise Pete, Simon, Neil and Nicky totally instanty. I know ONE person in Lame Academy - Robin from the Bee Gees - not a band that those kids buy in droves either I bet, even if they do like the songs.
But Simon and Nicky only became known through Pop Idol/Stars. (and I bet Pete was grateful for the career revival). So by the same rule of thumb you could say that all of the judges on Fame Academy are "well known" because people know them from the first series.

I knew Nicky Chapman was manager for Billie Piper, who sensationally ditched her when she started sh@gging ginger-haired t0$$er DJ Chris Evans, who's just lost a packet to Virgiin Radio.
I knew Pete Waterman was the brains behind all those classic Kylie records from the 1980s that hardly any TV or radio station bothers to play anymore.
I knew Neil Fox because he presents Drive on Capital FM and also fronts the Network Chart show on my local station Fosseway Radio.
Fair enough, I didn't know Cowell before series 1. But I didn't know Nigel Lythgoe either. But I don't care because they're both nasty *******!

Yes, but for those not in London he only known for a weekly 3 hour radio show

But you only knew nicky and Simon because they were on the last series, before that you could have walked past them in the street and not even batted an eyelid. Pete Waterman is the most famous - he was very high profile at one time.
No, but one of the biggest selling artistes of all time and one of the most famous musicians in the world. Very few of the audience of FA would have bought one of his records, but his songs are standards

Do you think she'd have had the motivation to audition and would be on the show without the 'Jenson' factor?
Quite possibly, the other students with record contracts don't exactly have rich boyfriends do they?

Update: the rest of the gang are writing tributes. If he hasn't recovered by Wednesday, will he go? After all, he won't be able to perform! Remember what happened to Rik Waller in Pop Idol? Darius got a bye to the final 8 as a result! I reckon if Barry goes, Audley might come back.

Well from what I can gather from the Live feed Barry is leaving.
All the students were told to gather in the dining room at which point Carrie started talking but it cut to the outside shot. From listning to what Gary was saying it looks as if his throat got the better of him and he is busy packing his bags.
Good. I always thought he was rubbish.
Anyhow if he is going how will he be replaced? Remember that David Sneddon was the replacement last year and he went and won.

Well I think Fame Academy's Saturday show was poor compared to last year.
Though Shepperton was too big, I think they should use a TVC studio. It seems to cramped where they are in the Academy.
Also, I don't like the idea of all students performing individually. I got bored by the time we got to number 13 - bit like the Eurovision Song Contest! Last year's format was better and more original. I liked the partnering they did and doing a tune all together at the end. You can still judge on the individuals. I still think they could introduce this.

I wish they would bring back Kevin Adams as a judge. On the whole, the current judges are not that good, Carrie and Richard are going OTT with their comments, where as David and Robin are boring.
