[QUOTE]The fundamental problem with FA is that the programme sets out to find the next John Lennon, and ends up with a teenage dyke who I would class as distinctly average.

But why do you have to call her a dyke? How do you know Alex wouldn't mind? You say it's tongue and cheek but I'm not so sure. In my opinion it's a typical gay response about a fellow gay. It's bad enough they have to endure homophobic comments but coming from another gay person is surely not very nice, or is that the norm that gay people just slag off each other? That really annoys me about gay people, they never support each other, always on about how they should be represented. I think Alex is great and Fame Academy was a much better show.

That's a bit of an overgeneralisation there.

Why should I support Alex, just because I also happen to be gay? I would support her if I felt she had the charisma and personality of a superstar, but she simply hasn't.

Well I can honestly say it's been my experience and certainly not an overgeneralisation as far as I'm concerned.
I do feel gay people in general should show each other more support. What is wrong with that?
Why are they so bitchy about each other?

btw - I can understand if Alex isn't your cup of tea although 60 % of the voting public seem to think she has something special.

. . . your under-developed brain . . .

At least I've actually got a brain! Such a pity the same can't be said of you . . .

Right, now we've got the thinly veiled insults out of the way . . .

So, do you refer to other gay males as "pooftahs", "faggots" in the same way you referred to Alex as a "dyke" ?
If you meant your original comment to be "tongue in cheek" why didn't you present it as such in the first place?

Eitherway, what you said came across as an offensive remark, rather than as a humorous comment.

Meanwhile, the "dyke" references in the "Heartless Dyke Cancels Animal Hospital" thread were clearly
meant as humourous comments. However I doubt that certain BBC bosses would see them as such!

Now, let's just call it quits, before this decents into a petty bickering thread, and ends up getting locked.

So Kat, would YOU watch Fame Academy if it was on ITV? What about you Hymagumba? Ask yourselves that question.

I would have some difficulty finding it as deleted ITV from my TV....

If the format was the same though I would watch it - allowing for breaks obv but the fact it's BBC doesn't matter.

Plus it's clear Phil meant her appearance - he's been here long enough - you know what he's like.

No I wouldn't, for the reason that I have never been a big viewer of ITV. It happened to catch my attention because it was on the BBC. I did have a look at Pop Idol once to see if it was something I was interested in, but I was more drawn to the more wholesome format and ideas behind Fame Academy. Oh, and I never bothered to tune in ITV to my television when I got it.

Phil, if nothing else, you must make a responsible effort to respect Asa's and the Mods' desire to keep the debating atmosphere in here as positive as you can. I have to take issue with your assertion that the BBC doesn't have original ideas - what nonsense. If we only have text on screen to determine the context of the words you use, you can't be at all surprised that people like DJGM and myself may very well take your use of the word 'dyke' the wrong way and take offence. Please be more tolerant of others who have a difference of opinion to yours and don't pass them off as 'lame' if they are. The more you use the word 'lame', the weaker its effect.

If you've ever seen 'David Attenborough; a Life on Air' you'll know full well the BBC DOES 'do' originality in abundance. It was he that as controller of BBC2 in the late 60s-early 70s provided us with landmark programming such as 'Civilisation', 'Horizon', etc... and I believe it was also the BBC that first broadcast programmes called Monty Python's Flying Circus, Fawlty Towers, Top of the Pops, the Good Life, To the Manor Born, Only Fools and Horses, Are You Being Served and so on..... did you conveniently forget these?

Since I don't have BBC 3 or digital TV,
is there any chance that "Best of Fame Academy" will be broadcast on BBC One any time soon?

Sadly a repeat of "Best Of Fame Academy" on BBC One is unlikely but the Fame Academy DVD/Video will be in shops November 3rd with all the weeks wraped up in one neat tidy package!

oh finally - I've been trying to reply for ages

I bought the album yesterday. Very nice although I think Alex's voice has been slightly polished on it. She has a smokers ruffness to her voice and it was less evident on there. Ali and Caz sound great to and Pete's song is very good.

Just one final thought...

It would be great if Alex + Alistair would release a duet-single together, Smile
Maybe "Let it be" from the finals or something they both have written...

Something special to remember and to give Alistair the true appreciation
he deserves as a fellow music artist. Cool

I hope they both become great musicians....
