What's it all about..?
Over the next three years, more than £1m will be given to young people to help further their musical ambitions. There will be over 400 instrument and equipment awards worth up to £1,200 per person (for applicants aged 11-15) and at least five educational bursaries (for 16-30). Applications for instruments and equipment is now closed. The first awards will be made in October 2003. Applications for educational bursaries will open on 16th August.

Surprised they haven't come up with a way to patch that onto BBC Three's channel during the day. I know it shares capacity with CBBC but as it's being transmitted full screen via BBCi I wouldn't have thought it that difficult to redirect the channel to that transponder

Pardon me for ignorance but what is involved in 'patching' exactly, and how does one channel i.e. BBC THREE share capacity with another i.e. CBBC?

1 channel comes out of TV centre and gets broadcast by satellite, DTT and cable. It has CBBC programming on it all day and then changes into BBC Three at 7:00pm till about 3:00am.

But there are 2 EPG channels on your box at home, one called CBBC and one called BBC Three. At about 6:57pm the picture disappears from the epg channel called CBBC and a picture appears on the epg channel called BBC Three.

It's the same channel and takes up the same space on the transmitter, it's just the number on your set that changes.

It probably is quite difficult. To change the frequency of an EPG entry (and other technical things like Programme ID) the network allocation table needs to be changed and that is a one off overnight jobbie. It also requires everyone to tune out and tune back in again to see the change.

It's very diffrent to when the channels are turned on or off every morning and evening

Very cunning.... thanks for the explanation Larry, it sort-of 'shares' the channel... very EPG-saving...

The reason is more to seperate the kids and the adults channels both so that they appear in the right sections of the epg and also so that the kids don't keep watching when more adult material appears

Well Louise got saved last week. I think it might be Barry actually.

I'm really liking it being back to once a week as it seems less rushed and more relaxed now. All the students are looking much more relaxed and everything.

Can I just say, i'm lovin this new series of Fame Academy and im so glad its getting more press (positive press) and critical acclaim. I think people have realised that Pop Idol would be nothing if it wasnt for the crap singing and Ant And Dec!

ant and dec are actually the very reason i prefer FA to PI. they take up too much camera time. last weeks self-idulgent look at which hopefuls fancied which one of them was total time wasting when we could have been seeing more of the people who can actually sing. i was hoping for more of a balance of the crap "entertaining" people (who have been auditioned prior to cowell+co) and the people who we are supposed to be building up a liking for but all we get is more camera time spent on some random fella who hasnt heard of pop idol and the shows presenters carrying out their eternal "cheeky chappie" routine. Rolling Eyes

i hope barry goes in FA this week, Louise gets too much stick because she has a millionaire boyfriend and is pretty, she can sing but people arent willing to give her a chance, unfair really.
