The real test of the Pop Idol and Fame Academy participants is the test of time. Who will still be around in ten years time? Not necessarily the ones who have had instant sucess.

ah - but that would mean they wouldn't get any training would they. Don't be so anti-FA. Go and watch Pop Idol as it's less taxing on your brain.

Why don't they just squeke the series into one half-hour slot with all 25 shortlisted singing a note of their choice and then the public vote for the winner. It would be alot less rushed.

Agreed. I think Gareth Gates will soon burn out, there's only so much of him the British public can take before we all want to stick pins into him. I think Will Youing may last a bit longer.
Out of the FA lot I think Lemar may do well, especially if his album is as good as people say it is and I'd like to see Sinead do well. Also David's about to start work on is second album so if thats any good he may stand the test of time, but my money's on Lemar.

they are currently talking about Peter and his singing that just consisted of shouting instead of properly singing. Alex is lecturing him now.
This is one of the reasons I prefer FA over PI as you get to see the interactions between the contestants better - last year on Pop Idol all the views from the house they were in were staged - audiance freidnly - drivvel.
Plus - they weren't bitching about Claudia - they were bitching about TPT as they've just started again.

I'd give the Fame Academy lot better longevity too - they're much better versed in writing their own music and maybe as a result, controlling their musical destinies, whatever those may be. What I'm worried about is that as soon as the Fame Academy winner from this series is decided, the papers will turn against the original students in an attempt to get the new winner to number one..... fame's a fickle thing....

Like David Sneddon ROFL!
None of you can see what has actually happened and that Will and Gareth are now established artistes - whereas David Sneddon (i have to use his full name unlike Will and Gareth as not many people know him) is still an unknown, possibly talented young artiste but FA just hasnt got the pizazz and balls that Pop Idol has given the ten people who became finalists on it!

I already want to stick pins into Gareth Gates. He's turned into a completely annoying little arsehole. Agree that Will Young has a longer shelf life, because he has a wider fanbase.
But, returning on topic, I think that both Sinead and David deserve to do well. I would agree that Lemar does have some talent, but I think that he was overrated by the teachers last year, and I reckon that Paris is heading for the same fate this time.

Exactly whereas Will and Gareth pop up everywhere, David Sneddon seems to be a permanent fixture on the BBC's own Saturday Show lately
I find David Sneddon 'an annoying arsehole' and some of this current slot seem far too confident and up their own arses after only two weeks!

Couldnt agree more Andrew!
Everytime I have watched Saturday Show/Blue Peter/Smile David Sneddon has appeared on them and been up his own arse!
The BBC seem to be giving this artiste free publicity from OUR license fee to advertise a failure that they have created and then expect us to buy into this farce even further by trying to con the public into buying his record.
The BBC is flogging a dead-horse and I for one cant beleive THEY think they are going to get away with this for a SECOND time!
I cant wait to see which reject wins this series!

It can't be that bad then, if you're interested to see who wins.
