I would have agreed that in its original format it was not the same as Pop Idol however I think in its present form, with a move away from life in the academy to focus on the live singing, has taken away its USP -the Big Brother Element. I mean they even use the same singing coaches as Pop Idol series one and like Pop Idol the only chance you get to see the singing lessons is in the VTs.
There is another major diffrence - Fame Academy doesn't show the audition process - the first time the contestants sing on TV they are all half-decent singers, not just some tone deaf bloke from off the pavement who thinks he can sing. That's a major part of Pop Stars/Idol - certainly the only bit that I watch

Somebody please sack/kill Patrick Kielty.
It is true/correct what headteacher Richard says: Patrick is (very) sycophantic.
If someone's a hopeless singer, it's kinder to tell them that, rather than give them false hope. I admire Richard's no-nonsense approach, and get annoyed with the audience boo-ing him (it's not a pantomime!
).

I can't imagine the host of the programme to say "What an absolutely crap performance. Let's see if the judges agree..."
