I hope F1 this season will get a new winner, I hate that German Schmakcer. I think that either Button or Coulthard might be there, but don't want him to win it again!

Although your comments are welcome on any subject, it isn't directly linked with television or television presentation.

Instead of locking this thread, perhaps it could be 'recycled' into a thread that could discuss Formula One television coverage, so that the forumer's opinions on F1-related coverage on television could be shared?

Well said, Lee.

It's about time we had an English winner for a change.

A boring minority sport which should not be allowed to displace legitimate programmes on any terrestrial channel.

Put it on a subscription channel, preferably for car races only, so I don't need to subscribe, well out of the way of normal human beings.

Does ITV control the graphics of F1 it shows?

I think ITV (or at least the on-screen junk from the UK) does have some form of control, as their feed is sent over the World, minus audio. I remember seeing a race on TVE2 a few years ago (actually it was Silverstone in 1999 when Schumacher crashed badly) and on-screen it was the exact same as ITV.

IIRC someone mentioned that the BBC still have something to do with the F1 transmission.

The graphics during the race itself are presented by the Host Broadcaster. In the case of the 1st three races of the season, it's FOM. ITV uses it's own graphics for the presentation before and after the race.

As F1 is te second most popular sport in the country according to figures (I'd link to them but I can't remember which site it was on), so shall we ban all sports from terrestrial TV? I'd happily susbscribe to a motor racing channel. Get away from the ITV coverage, which is performing as poorly as Schumacher. Can we have all football banished to a Football channel too? And cricket? And that awful 24/7 summer and winter games coverage that only shows the boring events! While we are banishing things can we get rid of soaps to a soap channel? Rolling Eyes
Oh, and if any of the British drivers were any good, we'd get a British winner!

I thought that annually, its global viewing figures place it third in sporting events with only the Olympics and World Cup ahead of it. Not bad for a minority sport... Wink

Minority sport? One of the three most-watched sports worldwide, eclipsed only by football and the Olympic Games? A sport watched by plenty of normal people. Shurely Shome Mishtake?

Yes, a LIVE sporting event should ALWAYS take precedence over any RECORDED programme. The sport only clashes with prime-time on three weekends per year (Brazilian Grand Prix, Canadian Grand Prix, United states Grand Prix). As far as I understand it, it is part of ITV's contract to show all Grands Prix live, so I'm not quite sure why they broke the rules of their contract by not showing the 2000 US Grand Prix live.

Three weekends out of 52 to broadcast differently, leaving the other 49 weekends to operate 'normally'. I don't think it's that unreasonable for ITV to pursue an alternative broadcasting schedule on those three weekends, do you?
