TopUpTV is all very reminiscent of the poor channel line-up of ONdigital.

Whilst Freeview's channel lineup is an improvement? UK Bright Ideas? FTN? Sky Sports News? Ideal World? Bid Up TV? Price-Drop TV? Really?

I'm surprised it has lasted this long. It's a very clever way of getting people to preview it and be recompensed for it, but considering the average DTT slot costs £3m (apparently), that's an awful lot of phone calls.

Since TUTV have leased many slots from SDN, I think it more than likely that they have a special deal on the lot. And the same stream carries Red Hot overnight, which comes with a £5.99 price tag (which clearly gets paid since Red Hot has survived for so long on dsat), so operational costs are shared there too.

They drop the name "Top Up TV Sampler" and that's what it becomes!

Doesn't even screen E4!

If theres a movie you want on TCM on Sat/Sun at 7pm - £1 is pretty cheap for a pay-per-view - with an afternoon of Cartoon Network thrown in.

It shows it's possible to have some sort of pay-per-view event service available on DTT - something like Premiership Plus.

They would be better off though moving ABC1 to the space and extending it's hours through to 11pm then putting something new in the ABC1 6am-6pm slot or re-jigging their channels so the existing line up has expanded hours.

No it doesn't - it's in no way secure enough to protect content that was worth much.

It seems quite a strange, yet quite sensible thing for Top Up TV to do. It is just a shame that with the limited range of channels available it does seem to be a missed opportunity, a day of Sky Sports would i'm sure have a much greater market value; but then again i'm sure Sky know that!

As predicted, I'm told that access to the channel will be lost if you change channels, and you'd then need to pay another £1 if you wanted to watch some more...

For crying out loud, thats appauling!
I found it interesting that E4 is not in the line-up, and there has been some rumours (DS) that new channel are coming to Top Up, possibly as a replacement to E4, however the poster later goes onto tell of a friend in TopUpTV who doesn't beleive (or know) of any E4 changes, i.e. leaving the service....
We shall wait and see......

Well I payed my pound and could change channels and put the box in standby and it still worked.

I never put my box onto standby unless it crashes and need a restart. I'm surprised you would just to prove a point.

Mind you, doesn't somebody else pay the bill in your house?

I think this idea is good for a lot of reasons. I could handle spending a quid if something is on that I fancy seeing. I would only do it from time to time.

I also like the idea that I can sit there of a rainy evening and attempt to find the code for myself.

Sounds fun.

I suspect this is going to depend on the set top box you have got, as depending on how it caches the MHEG information will affect the "encryption".
