Ricky Gervais and his writing partner Stephen Merchant are to produce one more episode of Extras, it was confirmed yesterday.

Gervais and Merchant want the BBC2 show to bow out with a one-off special, as they did with The Office.

"Ricky and Stephen are writing one more episode of Extras and that will be it," a spokesman for Gervais said. "There is no storyline or cast yet."

YESS!!! I loved Extras , and I hope this special will be as good as the last episode in series 2. I loved the punchline on that one...

"Surely you sit down at nights, watch My Family with your partner?"
"No, I prefer that more edgy stuff on BBC2."

I bet like The Office this will end up on BBC1 at Christmas.


Hopefully then Ricky Gervais will be one of those people who have a couple of hit series and then decide to retire from public life, never to be seen again!

I always thought they could use the Internet forums as part of the plot, maybe have some of them make a petition to get Andy Millman doing decent comedy rather than "When the Whistle Blows". Could be delightfully ironic and self-reflexive and all that.

When the wind blows is a Raymond Brigg story and cartoon film about an elderly couple living through a nuclear war like it is world war 2 and eventually dieing from radiation poisoning : Crying or Very sad

and I'm not having a laugh

Ooh how embarrassing! Corrected, and yes I know about the Raymond Briggs story, though I haven't seen it. I did see "Granpa" which used the same animation as WTWB, and it moved me when I first saw it, when the girl found the empty chair of her departed grandfather.

Related to nuclear war, I managed to find "Threads" on YouTube, and it is the most harrowing and disturbing drama I have ever watched. It would be interesting to see an updated version. Every world leader should watch it.

This is good news, I really enjoyed the last series of Extras.

I also saw Ricky on tour on Monday night at the Manchester Apollo (he's on tonight aswell) and this tour is called Fame. If you get the chance to go then do so, as I've never laughed so hard in ages, I wasn't a big fan of Animals, but Politics was superb. He also said alot that they wouldn't get away with on DVD etc.

I'd love to see him live but just don't have time to be honest. I have both Animals and Politics on DVD - absolutely brilliant!

There's an extra on the Extras Series 1 DVD with Ricky and Steve trying to get hold of Leonardo Di Caprio and Tom Cruise to appear in the show. Ricky rings International Directory enquiries! Hilarious.

Looking forward to the special - I suppose the obvious ending would be for Andy and Maggie to get together and "Barry" and Darren Lamb to fall out. We'll wait and see.
