Channel 4 has revealed details of the ‘experimental’ series due to air on E4 in January - it’s called ‘Big Brother: Celebrity Hijack’.

The information reads: “Many celebrities have caused chaos ON Big Brother, but in January 2008 - for the first time ever - a rogues gallery of stars, slebs and boffins will be seizing control to actually BECOME Big Brother.

From dictating tasks to interrogating inmates and controlling nominations the great, good and ghastly will be ripping up the rule book, holding rewards to ransom and generally creating mayhem alongside the REAL Big Brother in ‘Big Brother: Celebrity Hijack.’

Their willing hostages? A houseful of Britain’s most exceptional and extraordinary 18 to 21 year olds.

Over the next few weeks Big Brother will be combing the UK’s hottest young artists, athletes, scientists, musicians, entrepreneurs, fashion gurus and dons in every other field to assemble a cast of pure prodigies.

So any hopes that they've finally given up with the gimmick have been well and truly shattered then. Rolling Eyes

Thank God its only on E4, to put it on C4 would be an embarassment.

That's the problem - it doesn't! Most fans agree no series would be better than this.

We're Big Brother fans, not celebrity fans - and BB needs to be moving away from the idea of celebrity and fame - not embracing it further.

It's just a completely missed opportunity.

I do wonder whether the production crew will so have to hem in the celebrity usurpers that it'll actually be fairly tame...

It sounds quite good. Better than CBB.

How about this twist?

Twelve people in the house. They all compete for the power of Head of Household. The HoH puts two people up on the block. Then, people are chosen to compete alongside the nominees and HoH for the Power of Veto. The PoV holder can veto one nomination and replace it with another, or choose not to use it. At the end of the week, everyone except for the HoH and nominees vote one of the two out.

It obviously works in America, because after the failure of the international formula, they implemented this radical change and Big Brother 9 is coming next summer!

Come on, C4! Let's get the best of both worlds here!

Bring it on. Then hopefully it'll flop and we'll be shut of this retarded programme once and for all.

No point directly copying the USA - but definitely think they should be taking the opportunity to experiment and testing out ideas for game-play between the housemates should be top of the list.

Here is the outline of my idea:

BIG BROTHER: TOTAL CONTROL

Big Brother returns with a special E4 series which will challenge participants like never before as they handle total control over to Big Brother, the viewers - and each other.

From the minor every day decisions such as what to have for breakfast and how to spend their day - to the bigger decisions which will affect who stays, who goes - and ultimately who wins, housemates will have to hand over total control - or face the consequences.

And this time it's not just Big Brother's instructions that have to be obeyed - the viewers will have more influence on proceedings than ever before through regular online polls to determine the housemates fates, while select housemates themselves will find themselves in a position of power as they battle for access to the Control Room and for their basic Big Brother rights - i.e. the right to nominate.

I think something like this has much more opportunity to experiment a little and test out both increased viewer interaction and game-play between contestants - offering something a little different to the norm, but ultimately still Big Brother! And not a celebrity in sight!

Yes, there are two points. It's cheaper to produce, and there will be better ratings once the famewhores realise they can run the house.

Oh, and in the US-style twist, alliances can be formed and nominations can be discussed without punishment.

BB USA = Not Fun, and Catty to extreme levels and lack of viewer participation, and no crowds. Not much Americans talk about that show much, and bloody incidental music in a OTT fashion
BB UK = Viewer Participation, Fun and usually entertaining, down to earth

BB US, No thanks, in fact a lot of viewers from the US who watched BB8 (one of our worst series) were hooked

What are you on about? The music choices for BBUS this year were absolutely class, from Jameka's church music, to the violins when Jen cried, to the hard rock music during Dick's meltdowns.

If they took BBUS' basic game, and combined it with BBUK's edginess, bite, charisma, drama, and irony, it would be the perfect Big Brother .
