This page says "Channel 4 has championed widescreen broadcasting but Big Brother was produced and transmitted in the 4:3 ratio, largely due to the lack of 16:9 capable minicams. Webber notes that the format probably suited the subject matter better, making it more intimate".

This was related to Big Brother 2 but shows why 4:3 is the ratio it is transmitted in.

Well, it's back in 4:3 this year, but as BB Aus do it in widescreen, I don't see the problem (although last year they only used hidden cameras behind the mirrors)

The BBLB revealed the best kept secret - the eviction stage is now outdoors, so Davina will host the whole show in front of an audience, meaning they now see more than just the housemate leaving.
