According to the Big Brother website applications for the fifth series will be available from the end of January, with info also set to be shown on C4.

Let's round up a few early rumours:
Arrow On the one hand, Big Brother is said to be moving to a new location in Epsom, Surrey, but on the other, they've counter-acted these rumours by stressing they will stay at Elstree.

Arrow In a recent interview Davina has stated she will be hosting Big Brother 5. Don't know for sure if Dermot will still be around, but during Shattered he talked about Big Brother as if he would be involved this summer.

Arrow The series may not run in it's usual May-July slot with C4 having difficulty scheduling with oppositions from Euro 2004 in June/July and the Olympics in August. There are some suggestions on forums it may not begin till the Autumn, but I think this is unlikely.

I'd guess the series may run in a slot similar to the first series, beginning in July after Euro 2004. Euro 2004 evening matches kick-off at 7.45pm, so with the risk of extra time and penalties, that will lead into the 10pm slot. However, as Greece has a +2 hr time difference it will be midnight in Athens when it's 10pm here, so Olympic competition for the day would be finished.

Arrow Probably too early to discuss changes to the format. I personally think they need some, but I've learned from last year to expect the status quo.

Also note that Big Brother Sweden is back. ( http://www.bigbrother.se/ ) Anyone Swedish enough round here to understand what's going on. There is a link called Control Room (2nd from top) that links to a seperate window with a 3D graphic of the house divided by a red wall - have they got a series 3 style divide?

A move back to something like the format of BB3 would be great... IMO, BB3 was the best and BB4 (which was supposed to have a 'back top basics' approach) was *the* most boring BB ever.

I hope this year they get conflicting personalities, and some up-for-it people, and 2 innocent, then you need a dumb one, a loud one, a sneaky one, an arrogant one, and some really weird/freaky ones. They need to try and get them arguing over tasks etc and bring back the divide.

Haven't people sussed out how to play the game now?

For example, after last year's BB had ended, Gos (the fat, boring "chef") conceded that he had only gone in there to land his own cookery show! They need to find a Jade Goody - somebody naive and genuine.

And also, its essential that the public vote who they want to STAY, not go.

Agreed. BB3 was brilliant (I loved the heaven/hell split), closely beaten by the original which was compulsive TV before Nick was thrown out.

BB2 was far too friendly and BB4 was dull dull dull.

BB thrives on conflict, division and drink, and I hope they remember that this series.

I can understand a little swedish, and did have a look on the site for you. If you bring up the window containing the 3d graphic, you can only see the red line showing the dividing wall....however... if you then click on "Huset" (House in swedish), you then get a clickable tour of the 3d image. They are indeed using a divided house a'la UK series three. But their house looks a lot more claustrophobic than the GB house.... Also worth noting that the studio is actually part of their house, accessible via a shuttered door in the garden.

And for those for whom the word "obsession" doesn't feature in your vocabulary, they have included a room called "Butik" which I think means shop. It's also part of the house. If only my swedish was better, I could find out why the Swedes have included a shop in their houseplan....

Nice to see the BB rumour mill has once again started turning!!!!

I loved the rich side/poor side divide on BB3! BB2 was my fave BB though. I agree last years became so boring by the end, they need to do something to make it more interesting this time around.

Dermot said in an interview in "heat" a while back he'd be back for BB5, but it would be his final series.

I read somewhere that rather then applying with application tapes, open auditions would be held across the country.

seen as last year sapplications had to be in by early february, it's likely there wil be a late summer start this year, which imo is wise, after last year's mess, i don't think it's strong enough to go head to head with the football and olympics anymore

when admitting BB4 was a let down, didn't ch4/BB Producers say series 5 would be completely different?

Completely disagree. Big Brother is the only show where you vote against people and generally it's worked well for them voting to evict. The only reason it didn't work very well last year is the housemates were too nice and didn't have the "Evict Me" qualities of previous years.

Personally, if the UK version can't come up with their own original twist to the format (and I mean a major twist that affects the whole series!), I think the US format of Head of Household could work well, with the public getting the final vote. It would have to be tweaked a bit though to work with the UK style of show.

Just taken a look at the BB Sweden house and although there is a divide, it doesn't look like Rich and Poor, although one side does have a pool and sauna, while the other doesn't. Possibly more of a BB Australia scenario where they began with 2 houses that merged into 1.

i wouldn't like to see the head of house rule come in, but i have a feeling they will use it this year. I agree they need a twist that will affect the entire series though, i think a suprise fresh new twist no other country has had could give it that edge series 1 had.

Although this is a twist too far... Laughing

German Big Brother to run for a year

The maker's of the German version of Big Brother are set to push the contest to a new level by extending the time spent in the house to a year.

The fifth series of the German show, which has had audiences in the past gripped with lesbian kissing and erotic scenes in the pool, is set to start on March 1 and carry on for a year, say Endemol.

Contestants are battling it out for one million euros, the equivalent of £690,000.

The participants will also be separated into three different housing units - including a survival camp, a luxury villa and an average flat.

All of the units will be set up in Cologne. Where each candidate will be placed depends on their "social status", said Endemol.
