Compare and contrast with Noel behind the scenes in the TC7 gallery

Much more room to breathe, and actually letting the experts explain what they're doing, rather than the presenters pretending they know what they are talking about.

Indeed. Fascinating as it was, the Blue Peter segment in TC1 was very odd, with the mute - and slightly scary-looking - gallery staff.

Also, I don't think all of that tour (if any) was live on the day, the studio wall clock behind John Noakes on the camera crane, was saying 3:40 (or was it 2:40 ?) Blue Peter prided itself on being a live show.

Yes, from memory the seating area behind Lesley magically disappears when they link into the studio tour. Plus if you look on the credits, none of the monitors are showing the actual credits, as presumably they were added live when it was actually being played out. I'm guessing that sequence was too complicated to do live.

Briefly featured in 'From Andy Pandy to Zebedee the Golden Age of Children's TV' here's John Noakes climbing Nelson's Column in his slip-on shoes and anorak without any safety equipment. I don't know how he didn't just wrap his arms around the ladder and start crying when he reaches the overhang at the top, I bloomin' would.

By 'eck! It were commonplace in them days...

I feel sick. It's a wonder the weight of John and Fred's obviously massive balls didn't pull them back down to the ground!
