Anyone know where the clip of Derek G and his dog was from? As far as I can remember he was always narrated Heads and Tails and never appeared on screen. Was it Ring-A-Ding?
Great shows tonight but what about that classic Blue Peter! All the pets, quirky items, top presenters and a look round TC1 at it's height. I felt nostalgic for it even though I'm 29. Shown before on BBC4 but what an edition!
This doc may be good but it white washes TOP Cat being renamed Boss Cat... even with the tv listings have Boss cat!!
I don't think there was anything sinister going on. There was a brand of cat food called Top Cat, so 'Boss' was substituted to ensure accusations of advertising were avoided.
It was, but it was done in a rather ham-fisted manner, although without re-dubbing the whole programme, I suppose it was unavoidable. The 1970s were the height of BBC advertising 'concern'; gaffer tape over brand names on articles used on Blue Peter etc. There was a bit of a kerfuffle regarding BP's Christmas appeal, the courier firm BRS (British Road Services) used to offer free transport of items donated to the appeal. One year they re-branded to 'Roadline'. There was an incredibly laboured (even for 70s TV) explanation of this re-branding, with the presenters carefully explaining using the old and new logos that it was still the same company. In other words BRS had managed to publicise their brand change for free on the BBC. You couldn't help but see the irony !

I'd never seen the actual closing to that ep of Grange Hill tomorrow. Good to see they didn't go straight into Chicken Man - but that zooming into Zammo's face with the weird noises in the background is completely chilling! Would be interesting to see how Schofield linked out of that one.
Briefly featured in 'From Andy Pandy to Zebedee the Golden Age of Children's TV' here's John Noakes climbing Nelson's Column in his slip-on shoes and anorak without any safety equipment. I don't know how he didn't just wrap his arms around the ladder and start crying when he reaches the overhang at the top, I bloomin' would.
Newsround was fascinating, though Blue Peter was incredibly dull other than the TC1 tour. Grange Hill just highlighted what children's TV is missing nowadays.

Compare and contrast with Noel behind the scenes in the TC7 gallery
Much more room to breathe, and actually letting the experts explain what they're doing, rather than the presenters pretending they know what they are talking about.
