I don't really care. Maybe the other countries who haven't contributed, should start.

I reckon they should try going through the semis route next year, just for the single year.

They'll not get through to the final if recent years are anything to go by.

It'll be interesting to see how ratings slide with no UK. If not by much, pull out altogether.

I'd been thinking that Tel was subdued the whole way through. Dead-last for the song we put in shows just how pointless the whole thing is.

I get the distinct impression that Terry was so wanting to announce his withdrawal from the contest on air. It is only his professionalism that stopped him! He certainly wasn't as perky as he usually is and he is dead right. It isn't a music contest anymore. The real purpose of the show is to judge the best song. With that in mind, it should have been sweden, Ukraine or Greece. San Marino gave really fair, unbiased votes. I don't think that the UK should have won but it certainly should have finished in the top ten. There were a dozen decent songs and a dozen cheesy crap ones. Terry is so correct with his views tonight. The political voting is pathetic and should be stopped. I think it's about time that Western european countries should relaunch the contest by themselves and let the Eastern lot keep kissing and hugging each other to their hearts content.

It doesn't help anymore that the countries that were knocked out in the Semis & before can give points

Although Ireland thankfully gave us some, shame it weren't 12 points we would have at least been higher.

He was correct. All the Scandanavian countries vote for each other, all the ex USSR or Yugoslavian countries vote for each other. The only real independent ones are The UK, Germany, France, Spain & Poland.'

Terry just didn't seem himself, I suppose the previous years he's probably just thought "yeah we do deserve to lose" but this year we didn't. Ok perhaps not a win but we definately should have been in the left hand side column.

What a sad night. I've watched, and loved, the Song Contest for donkeys years. I remember Bucks Fizz's performance (though I wasn't allowed to stay up to see if we'd won). I watched the 1982 contest from Harrogate through to the end. I vividly remember The Herreys win for Sweden, Riverdance brought my incredibly boozy student Eurovision Party to silence and eventually to its feet ...

How sad that the contest seems to be no longer about songs. I thought that was our best song for years and the best performance at the final in a long time. We came last and got votes only from Ireland and San Morino. Even Malta gave us diddly.

It was clear that Terry was extremely disappointed and with the retirement of Kevin Bishop he's clearly hinting strongly that his heart isn't in it anymore.

I said this on Event Chat, but actually I believe more strongly than ever, that without a radical overhaul of the contest, the BBC should threaten to pull out of participation and relegate transmission of the event to BBC Three. (The BBC should obviously remain an active and important member of the EBU which is a totally separate thing.)

I await being shot down in flames...

They should just split the contest into 2 parts. Western Europe and Eastern Europe, when was the last time the winner was a traditional western european country?

I think that the BBC, the FRENCH and German equivalents and maybe Spain but they seem to be there with the Eastern luvvies to start their own contest. I would love to see the Eurovision of old with the following Countries participating:
FRANCE
BELGIUM
LUXEMBOURG
ITALY
GERMANY
PORTUGAL
MALTA
SAN MARINO
SWITZERLAND
HOLLAND
AUSTRIA
UNITED KINGDOM
SWEDEN
NORWAY
DENMARK
ICELAND
FINLAND
IRELAND
SPAIN
HUNGARY

That is it. Every year they would enter with no semi finals. The rest can do what they like. It will never happen though. If Terry leaves Eurovision (and my betting is that he will) it certainly would not be the same. Harry Hill would be a great replacement but what's the betting it will be onathan Ross or Graham Norton?
