Someone needs to remind the selection board they're supposed to be finding a winning song, not casting for Celebrity Love Island.

The judges are pointless - just let the public judge on the songs alone, not what Jonathan Ross thinks is a good "Eurovision" song. After all, the "judges" have hardly influenced the public to vote for a winning song in the last few years.

Let me guess, the judging panel will probably consist of Jonathan Ross, Chris Moyles and.. Jamelia.

Well, they say Terry is heading up the judging panel, having the casting vote if the other two judges don't agree on an act to progress. Let's hope he blurts out the right name then...

Then again, after Scooch let's hope he blurts out the wrong name! Rolling Eyes

Well, RTÉ have decided Ireland obviously has no chance on winning, so in a desperate bid have decided to enter a turkey into the National Song Contest. Quite literally....

Always bad form to reply to your own posts on a board, but anyway, the aforementioned National Song "Contest" is on Saturday at 7pm on RTÉ One with the coronation, I mean results, after the Nine.

When the BBC said they wanted 'known' composers to take part in Eurovision, I wasn't aware that 'well-known' implied 'rubbish' or 'failed'.

So we have a failed EastEnders star, runners up from Joseph and Maria , a failed X Cacktor star, and a group that, from the description, will sound like the Supremes, but having inhaled helium beforehand.

A bit of gospel choir style music might actually have worked quite well, even if they had to do a live downlink from the cabaret. Would certainly have beaten 'would you like something to suck on for landing?'

But as far as Kosovo/Serbia/Albania are concerned, all I will expect is that Cyprus'll vote for Greece again. The phrase 'business as usual' springs to mind.

You said known composers... not known artists.

Yet I know none of those composers either - see the individual artist profiles on the websites.

Maybe my song wasn't right after all.

Suggestion from those in the know that this is just an MP/MSP trying to get some cheap free publicity...

The BBC are the main EBU representative for the UK - which includes Scotland. Whilst other broadcasters, such as ITV, are also EBU members, the BBC is the main representative for the entire UK, and thus represent the entire UK (including Scotland) at the Eurovision Song Contest. (The UK has hosted the competition in Edinburgh in the past as well - as well as in Harrogate, London, Brighton etc.)

If STV wanted to enter Eurovision with a Scottish entry, the BBC would have to agree to this first AIUI - and this is unlikely... After all - STV would have to host the contest if they won - and that commitment is unlikely from them.

That is almost like the episode of The High Life coming true when Scotland entered " Piff Paff Poff ( I Want To Have It Off ". Mind you - it might be in with a chance Wink

Not actually true. STV is a full EBU member. It would only need permission to enter if it was an associate member. The speculation that Scotland could enter its own song comes from a statement from the EBU which said that Scotland was now allowed to put forward its own song. The rules have been ammended slightly. In the past, Scotland wasn't allowed as the BBC covers Scotland.

In the wildest of situations, whereby STV said it would put forward an entry, the BBC would have to block BBC Scotland viewers from voting so as not to duplicate votes (Scotland wouldn't be entitled to vote as Scotland AND as the UK) But as you can imagine this would get pretty messy and confusing and would also result in Scottish viewers having Eurovision on both BBC1 Scotland AND STV. So, the most likely outcome, if the situation is to change in the future, would be the BBC deciding to put forward seperate entries for Scotland, England, Northern Ireland and Wales. Again, this is now allowed under the new EBU rules, but it would mean our entries wouldn't be allowed automatic qualification to the finals.

So - basically, the EBU has opened up a mega confusing one here!! Rolling Eyes
