The list goes on. I just hope RTP do a better job of the thing next year.
RTP of Portugal? Don't you mean TVP of Poland or has next year's location already been decided?

Also, SVT wasn't the Swedish broadcaster of the Dance contest, it was (the commercial) TV4.

Most pointless programme ever. And from the little I saw, absolutely awful too.

I wouldn't say the most pointless programme ever..

It is pretty naff though and for the BBC to host it just to show off the fact we love dancing in this country thanks to Strictly ... well I don't and I sometimes wish BBC1 would just shut up about it, but, I guess it must be popular.

Isn't the whole programme just something the BBC has invented due to their obsession with dancing?

Therefore it will always be made by the BBC every year?

The BBC have Published the EDC for the past two years. It's been produced by Sunset and Vine.

When will the next Eurovision Dance Contest take place?

The next Eurovision Dance Contest is planned for 2009. The participating broadcasters have been invited by the EBU to participate in a tender to host the show and mount the public event. More details will be available closer to the end of the year.

I thought Sunset + Vine were a respected sports production company. Didn't expect them to be responsible for this trash.

Right, one does hope you did at the time, apply the same logic to World Idol, as just being something ITV made up to capitalise on its obsession with churning out an annual singer.

Of course that's not at all true, and neither is your suggestion, where it seems that the idea for the Eurovision Dance Contest came from the International Dance Sport Federation (whatever that is) and some Swiss guy; although no doubt inspired by the Strictly Come Dancing induced revival of the the dancing genre of programming in a multitude of countries.

Still though, lets not let that get in the way of a bit of underhand BBC bashing, clearly dancing is their vice and anything related therefore is all their fault.

Splash Media - formed by the original creators of Strictly Come Dancing - are the indy producing it. Think they are part of Sunset and Vine these days.

Yep - presumably it is most likely to be shown by whoever the local rights holder to the "Strictly / Dancing with the Stars" format is? I think that is TV4 rather than SVT in Sweden.

In that case, the Dutch broadcaster would have been RTL-Ned, I'm sure that's the station I've seen their SCD clone show on, rather than NOS. So the broadcasters don't need to be EBU members to carry the contest ?

I don't see why the Eurovision Dance Contest has to be based around the Strictly Come Dancing format, surely it's the same as the song contest being based round Pop Idol or something.

I think it would be better if each country could enter any dance act they like, so Ireland could have entered Riverdance for example, had the competition been around at the time that was going!

It also means the country needs it's own version of SCD to enter.

All participating broadcasters are EBU members only.

Following channels took part in the contest:
Austria (ORF2), Azerbaijan (Ictimai TV), Denmark (DR1), Finland (YLE2), Greece (ERT/NET and ERT Sat), Ireland (RTE1), Lithuania (LRT/LTV), The Netherlands (TROS/Nederland1), Poland (TVP2), Portugal (RTP1 and RTPi), Russia (Channel One), Sweden (TV4), UK (BBC One) and Ukraine (NTU/First)

Following countries have broadcasted the show without sending representatives:
Albania (RTSh), Belarus (First Channel), Cyprus (RIK1 and RIK Sat), FYR Macedonia (MRT1 and MKTV Sat), Iceland (RUV), Spain (TVE2), Bosnia-Herzegovina (BHT1), Israel (IBA1), Armenia (ArmTV) and Malta (TVM).

Presumably it is TV4 and not SVT as SVT were not interested to take part in project. TV4 also is EBU member and took part in Junior Eurovision as well, before withdrawing this year.

Are there any countries left taking Junior Eurovision?
