Bloody hell, this year! I don’t understand how that sounds entertaining anyway... if it wasn’t so specific of an event to base a drama around I wouldn’t see the problem but it just seems so... odd. Don’t think the EBU will be amused either.

Worth considering that Israel is more immune to terrorism.

I'm sorry I don't accept that. I pay the BBC's wages. I feel underserved by my investment and want answers. Why can we not copy the Swedish national final as a one night format (which SVT ran with until fairly recently) - why do we need to have an under capacity studio, what's wrong with the MEN Arena? They hire out an arena for SPOTY!

If the BBC can't do a British Melodifestivalen they're doing it wrong. They want a license fee increase? I would start by hiring Christer Bjorkman and Edward Af Silen on a consultancy basis.

I know people say "let ITV take over!" but the truth is, we don't pay for ITV. They can do what they want.

What answers do you want? People say "Let Cowell take over as he'll produce something good." Well X-Factor winners have songs as cheesy and schmaltzy as saccharine on sticks so I fail to see any merit in that argument. The BBC cover Eurovision because the final attracts a good audience and the semi-finals are watched by approx 200,000 people. I pay the TVL too and I'm contented with what they do for Eurovision. Maybe they should revert back to internal selection if the BBC's coverage annoys you so much.

We won't copy the Swedish version because in Sweden it is a tradition and has a long standing place in their schedules and they have a population that enjoys it. We have a population that takes the piss out of Eurovision and whilst we might enjoy the final for a bit of escapism and entertainment, Brits actually would not watch a show like the Swedish put on for weeks on end because people simply do not care that much about it. That might annoy you, but it's true. The BBC do what iis acceptable considering the relatively low interest it gets. I like hedgehog racing, but i suspect if the BBC covered that it would be in accordance with the amount of interest it would get. not everyone cares about Eurovision until the Final.

Another country where the government seem very interested in their entry.

MARUV has been pulled from Eurovision by NTU and will not be representing Ukraine. She has been treated terribly.

People are already trying to get MARUV some justice: https://www.change.org/p/european-broadcasting-union-disqualify-ua-pbc-ukraine-from-the-eurovision-song-contest-2019?

If they ignored thousands and thousands of votes from the Ukrainian public then they’re going to ignore a petition with 200 entries. It’s up to the EBU now to deal with what happens next.

I don't think the EBU can do anything as IIRC, Ukraine never actually submitted the artist.

I do think the EBU needs to clamp down on standards and practices for national finals, including politicising of the selection shows, the contracts the artists are made to sign and transparency in public votes.

The BBC would be affected by that as they don't reveal the votes in the national final (due to their not being rules in the UK mandating all TV public vote results get published.)

That's kind of the point. All they have to do with what ITV do with X Factor and show what won and by what margin.

For a broadcaster so obsessed with compliance that we can't vote in the ESC by SMS, it's un petit cloak and dagger, non ?

They've never had a problem revealing the exact number of votes received in SPOTY so no reason any other show should be different.
