Russia in 2019 is seen very differently to Russia in 2009.

But not to different to 2018.

Rightly or wrongly when it comes to these events visitors and viewers can separate the state from the event.

Right. After all, Israel won last year, even though the country itself isn't about to win any popularity contests in Europe (to say the least).

There's also Russia's human rights record against a community that makes up a large proportion of Eurovision fans.

There's already been an announcement from the EBU to ignore today's news:

https://eurovision.tv/tickets/

The local organisers always seem to misjudge the pricing of tickets. In Kiev the plan was to not offer any fan club tickets and to charge top price for everything. In end they were talked out of it. Equally in Lisbon the original plan was for the top price for the final tickets to be similar to what KAN want to charge. In both cases the EBU intervened and managed to reduce the pricing and ensure that pricing was more affordable. The EBU’s philosophy is that prices should be relative to what was charged the previous year, not relative to the local market.

Whilst the prices outlined above are quite shocking I can just about see them not budging for the final, people are ultimately prepared to pay anything to be in the audience for the final. The prices for the semi-finals and jury finals are madness. From experience these shows almost never sell out, even in Eurovision mad Stockholm the auditorium was mostly empty for the jury semi-finals.

The venue is one of the smallest in the past few years so unfortunately it's probably a case of supply and demand. I really wanted to go this year however as soon as I heard how small the venue was and the expected rush for tickets, I decided that I'll watch from home.

The rumoured appearance of Madonna at the grand final will only add to the number of people going for tickets. Dread to think what they'll go for on resale sites plus, the whole ticket release is really, really late, I had tickets for Stockholm16 and Lisbon18 before Christmas the preceding year

Time for an EBU rethink and go for a ballot instead of a "luck of the draw" general sale and then impliment the "Hamilton" musical ticketing process: the credit card you booked with is your physical ticket (so it stops resales). That said, I hope that Tel Aviv is a great show and I'll watch from the comfort of my sofa with a bucket of wine. Having been to two grand finals, it really is a magical experience for Eurovison fans, so I'm rather sad it's getting out of reach for so many

On other forums they're saying EBU is stating ignore the news however haven't denied the pricing

Apparently Eurovision is not that popular in Israel (even if the ratings have improved a fair bit in recent years) and they dont expect many locals outside the core fan base to be interested in attending.

France might boycott the contest due to a drama on Israeli TV.

Bloody hell, this year! I don’t understand how that sounds entertaining anyway... if it wasn’t so specific of an event to base a drama around I wouldn’t see the problem but it just seems so... odd. Don’t think the EBU will be amused either.

I mean, that’s just my impression from the tiniest bit of article that wasn’t paylocked.

They won't.

Really do think though if you're that concerned about Israel's suitability to host Eurovision you should boycott this thread till the summer.

Agree. It seems unlikely but it is a story in a respected newspaper not just a random blog so obviously french television are offended by the program bur surely not to the level of withdrawing.
