All the polls and ratings I’ve seen so far from non-brits are showing that Michael Rice won’t do too badly with an average placing of 2 or 3/5. While this isn’t showing much, given there’s only five songs selected.

So 23rd if we're lucky.

It is what it is but the BBC can and do put on better shows for other events and if done right the UK selection show could be as much of a tentpole in the Q1 schedules as Eurovision is in Q2. The trouble is however big and well produced the show is you need the content to deliver it - and this year was certainly below par.

Exactly. And that’s why people are so passionate in their opinions. I am totally supportive of the BBC’s efforts however last nights TV production was lacklustre and needed a lot of work. I do still think we’re moving in the right direction though.

This is one hell of a SBS show from the Gold Coast, brilliant presentation and introductions Joel Creasey is a laugh outdoing Graham in the camp stakes. I want his jacket too. We even have the Finals commentators shut up bong at the start of the songs too.

Just show you how seriously they take it. I'm actually sitting here watching it in amazement.

They’ve created their own mini Eurovision song contest; from staging to presentation, even the inclusion of a green room. The vast songs to choose from is a great decision. Many we could take inspiration from them next year.

Is the Australian broadcast from an arena or a large studio?

I doubt Blackpool/Brighton council etc would pay for it like the Gold Coast government is paying for the majority of this.
They also paid for the "Logies" the Australian equivalent of the National Television Awards to move there last year to boost Tourism.

Blimey, a few quid's been thrown at this. Fair play to them. Certainly shows the gulf between our show last night. Here the appetite just isn't there to put on this kind of show, is it?

It says something when they can fill a stadium full of Aussie Eurovision fans!

I wouldn't say that the appetite isn't there in the UK, but it has most probably diminished with our choice of songs over the years and non making our selection show more prominent as the competition has grown in stature. The attitude of many that it's cheesy and a joke over here is an odd one.
