I was cautiously optimistic as the new HOD appears to be a genuine fan, but the songs this year are so poor that when coupled with schoolboy errors like that, you do wonder if anyone in the Corporation actually cares about the show.

I think it could get through though. It has a catchy hook which could stand out on the night, and the MAID version gives me Little Mix vibes.

Some commentators are picking up a coded message about the B word in Freaks, with the multilingual bit and the "all together as one" vibes.

That went over my head but I see where they're going. Still don't think it's a great song and for me, the MAID version sounds really messy production-wise.

Wait... isn't the spirit of the ESC supposed to be all about European unity? (Regardless of the EU or any other specific political institutions.)

And who are these ‘commentators’? Random Tweeters? Or just angry Brexiteers who see a few words of French as somehow an affront to the English people?!

Absolutely, and of course the EU has sod-all to do with that. Indeed, since 2001 only 7 countries were EU members at the times of their win (8 if you count Sweden's two wins separately.) That said, Estonia's bid to join the bloc was clearly helped by their excellent hosting of the 2002 show, I remember everyone doubting they could do it but do it they did, and they did it well from what I remember.

It's not even about European unity anymore when you consider some of the states who take part, really it's just about bringing people together and celebrating our unique and diverse cultures rather than trying to homogenise them. That's the most beautiful thing about it. It's a huge family which welcomes anyone from anywhere and any walk of life.

Kerrie-Anne is by far the best and could lend itself to a great production on stage. Remember how much Cyprus’ song last year came alive when they staged it?

It’s probably the first song in years I could imagine getting played on the radio too.

And now at last I understand the driving force behind Brexit.

That large bank of ceiling lights appear to be tilted in some pictures and flat in others, could we be seeing some some sort of kinetic lighting grid? That would be pretty amazing as I still love the kinetic lights they used in Vienna and for me that was a spectacular tv moment
