Glad they’re doing something else than a 2D logo with a Gotham wordmark slapped on it like there has for the last few years. It actually looks like an event now!

I love it! The best logo in quite a few years.

Statement from KAN
Quote:
The triangle, one of the world's oldest shapes, is a cornerstone symbol found universally in art, music, cosmology and nature, representing connection and creativity. As the triangles join and combine, they become a new single entity reflecting the infinite stellar sky, as the stars of the future come together in Tel Aviv for the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest.
Together as one in hating oneness.

That is beautiful. I hope this means a bit of a departure from the last two years with the on screen graphics etc.

Fair play to KAN, they seem really determined to do this one well.

Get some decent hosts and a bloody good script and it could be a good one.

A contender for design quote of 2019 and we've barely left the first week of the year! 🤣

Let’s not forget though that the one and only reason for having a star as the logo is to reinforce the Star of David and the symbolism of Israel as a state. All that design talk is a load of guff.

Not sure what your point is... Influences from flags are often part of Eurovision logos

This year’s event, like all, will be a huge propaganda event for the host nation. For Israel it presents a big opportunity to present a normalised, non-political view of the country to over 200 million viewers worldwide. From the outset it was said that the logo/stage would reflect the Star of David. This is clearly a huge chance for Israel to legitimise the country in the eyes of many viewers. The Star of David is a powerful symbol that goes far beyond its political use by the State of Israel. It’s all part of the culture wars that you see every day where many people deny Israel the right to exist. Even the EBU itself doesn’t allow KAN (previously IBA) to refer to Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. This is almost Israel sticking two fingers up to its haters.

There'll be a lot of that, which will strike a chord back here particularly due to the presence of an antisemitic opposition party.

Don't confuse Antisemitism with opposition to the actions of the Israeli state, two totally different things.

Anyway, back to the lovely logo and branding Smile

I'm guessing the illuminated triangle represents the map of Israel, which would fit pretty neatly into that shape.

The Star of David is a LOT more than an influence from a flag... It is a much more powerful symbol than just that.
