I think next year is going to be a crucial year for the BBC through - if the UK have another 18-26th finishing position they I can see the pressure to sadly withdraw getting stronger and the BBC having to constantly explain how cheap they get 3 and half hours of primetime Saturday night TV.

Why? What’s so special about next year over the past 20? I’ve not heard anybody say we should withdraw.

This is the same person who was predicting war with Russia a few weeks ago!

BM11 talking out of his backside as usual...

Of greater concern is the news that the Green Room is being moved back out of the arena for the first time since 2013, but tickets will be made available to sit in the Green Room audience like SVT did that year.

Massive step backwards!

Not anywhere big enough in Tel Aviv but the political and religious circumstances meant the bigger arenas in Jerusalem were not able to host the contest.

I don’t consider this an issue. Malmö is considered one of the best shows ever. I was there in the arena and it certainly didn’t impact on the show. Of course Petra went between the two halls by means of a segway!

It generally does it no harm to downscale a bit every few years. Looking at the fanbase too they could probably get away with selling half as many seats for twice the price.

Also, there’s a sizeable number of fans who will be boycotting it due to being in Israel. I don’t think tickets will be a big issue this time. Last year there seemed to be a real spike in the number of casual fans who decided to attend, mainly due to it being in Lisbon. The larger arena didn’t equate to a better show or a better atmosphere.

Out of the three live contests I've seen so far (the last three), nothing's quite beaten Stockholm 2016 for me, perhaps helped by the fact that the host country's entry was a genuine winning contender and did well in the voting. In contrast, Kiev's audience were miserably walking out throughout the voting as neither Ukraine or neighbouring Belarus were doing that well, and Lisbon - while a better atmosphere than the year before - had lots of glum Spanish and Portuguese fans around me near the end, although several ecstatic Israeli fans too which lightened the mood as Netta won.

Yeah, Lisbon had a LOT of Spanish fans there alongside the home crowd. Unsure if it's because Netta led the betting from the word go, but there seemed to be a huge Israeli contingent there.

What really surprised me is how many Aussies made the trip, although they of course got hammered in the public vote.

Yes 2013 was an amazing show but we don't have SVT and we don't have Petra. I really want KAN to do well but I remember the stark downgrade from 1998 at the NIA in Birmingham to the Millstreet-esque theatre in Jersualem in 1999.

The last two times Israel have hosted it's felt like they've dragged the show back 5 years.

I imagine the EBU are terrified of Russia winning in the coming years because then they will be withdrawals - the BBC would have to think long and hard for a start.

Politically it might be quite offensive to go to Russia and do a light entertainment contest while they hiding murderer's of a British citizen,
