Personal views aside, how does Brexit affect our participation once we leave the EU? Will we be treated as a guest participant like Australia and Israel?

It's called Eurovision, not EUvision.

We're leaving the EU, not Europe.

Israel are full EBU members.

Yes, EBU membership is open to any of the countries in this area:

Yes, an Iraqi or Syrian TV channel could theoretically be a member of the EBU and enter a song in the song contest

I only discovered yesterday after reading a feature in the 'i' paper that Algeria and Egypt are eligible to enter.

The Lebanon almost entered in 2005 but withdrew because of Israel's participation. The same reason it is thought that Tunisia withdrew in 1977.

Jordan once cut transmission of the contest during Israel's entry and then pulled it completely when the was looking like they were going to win. They later reported that Belgium had won

I don’t think Tunisia ever entered, though they did consider it. Morocco competed only once in 1980. This Wikipedia page explains all:

Incidentally, during last nights extremely long interval a trail was played for the Eurovision Young Musicians 2018 which will be staged in Edinburgh. Graham seemed unprepared for this and said ‘I’ve no more information for you on that!’

Well, it’s in Edinburgh at the Usher Hall (which coincidentally staged the Song Contest itself in 1972) Semis on 18/19 August and the final on 23rd. It’s not entirely clear from the Wikipedia page whether it will all be on the tv in the uk: the semis are being produced by Radio 3. It makes no mention of the TX channel in the uk. I’d guess at BBC Four.

Anyway. Here’s the trailer:
