At the time I remember assuming that the 1990 contest, in then still socialist Yugoslavia, would be incredibly old fashioned, with shoddy production and beset with technical difficulties. That awkward start aside the show went quite smoothly I think didn't it? They featured an animated cartoon character EuroCat which was very reminiscent of other strange Eastern Europe animations that used to occasionally turn up on children's tv at the time.

Here's something to recall (skip to 3:50):

Won by Slovenia, S4C's Welsh entrants were runners up ahead of Latvia in Third.
Not worth its own thread, but that Eurovision choir thing is currently on S4C.

Back to the 'Song Contest', we are promised an update on 2018 tomorrow. Presumably dates and/or venue selection.

Portugal's Observador reports that the MEO Arena in Lisbon has been selected as the venue. Other sources suggest that the dates are likely to be either in the week straddling the beginning of May or a week later. We should know later today

I've liked Australia's first two entries but I think it's getting a bit stupid now them being in what is essentially/supposedly a European competition. Yes, there are countries not classed as 'Europe' already participating for many years but they are on the periphery of Europe and are in the European broadcasting area. It seems that Australia gets special mention every year as well. It's like a guest who has over stayed their welcome at a party.
