I think either if Ireland or Australia won it, then there would be BBC involvement in some way.

RTE less so - they'll just rebood Riverdance during the interval, and get some of the cost back via RTE Global with stadium shows and soundtrack downloads.

Suspect Tony is there to look at the infrastructure and work needed for the expected SBS-BBC Co-production should Australia win.

I’m pretty sure it was stated that Australia would host with Germany last year.

I'm sure Paddy O'Connell on Lord Kenneth of Bruce show on Radio 2 yesterday morning said the BBC would co-prod next year if Australia won.

Maybe SBS change production partners each year. ARD/NDR last year, BBC for this.

According to that bastion of truth, Wikipedia (though this is actually sourced), it is NDR (Germany) who will co-host. If NDR decline, it is the BBC.

Mic sound quality from the France 2 commentators is really poor this year. They have three commentators.

And the source Actually says:
Quote:
It is widely expected that if Australia wins the 2018 contest will be held in Germany and co-hosted alongside the German broadcaster NDR. If NDR declines to host the back up broadcaster for the contest is believed to be the BBC in the United Kingdom.

I made the important bits bold.
So it's nothing but rumours and AFIAK SBS hasn't announced which country they will co host in.
Though both choices do make sense.
Firstly the UK is culturally the most similar country to Australia obviosly, which makes the BBC a obvious choice.
On the other hand NDR (or the ARD as a whole) is one of the wealthiest (if not the wealthiest) member of the EBU, so it's expectedt they could pull of the contest without sending themselves into too big financial troubles.

I believe in recent months BBC Studios has strengthened its relationship with SBS generally.

#SLO How did this garbage get to the final? I definitely didn't want this to qualify Thursday evening. Was the pause about two thirds of the way through really necessary? Poland or Montenegro deserved the place this took Thursday evening. Nul points por favor! #AllAboard
