What a snowflake!
You're going to stop watching a programme because you don't like the flags in the audience?

Yes, I'm going to write a strongly worded letter to the editor of the Times. Of course I'm not going to stop watching the shows I like! I was attempting humour. The EU flag is just a really crap flag. I'd rather see the array of colour that feature in Europe's national flags rather than loads of dull blue flags that are there to state a political point, rather than to celebrate Eurovision. We were part of Eurovision long before the EU was about!
Mind you I liked Måns Zelmerlöw's comment. "You have to vote. Can't complain about the result if you don't! BREXIT!"
I will of course, respect the democratic right for anyone to fly whatever flag they so desire, as long as people respect my democratic right to complain about it.

I do agree with all that. However, it will be hard to convince people that it isn't political considering you'd have been led to believe we were finding an entry for the EU rather than the UK. If I was an artist I would have said "This isn't about politics. It's about the UK in Eurovision, which was created to unite us rather than to highlight our political differences. I would have liked to see my country's flag being waved at me instead of a political symbol!"
What on earth are you prattling on about?
So, you did not notice the masses of EU flags in the audience and the tiny amount of Union Flags? The BBC made it political when they keep telling us it isn't.
Does it really matter to the average viewer?

I can confirm it was NOTHING to do with the BBC, a group was wandering down the queue outside giving all those who wanted, free EU flags. However after some "tests" preshow we were told we were not allowed to wave ANY flags til the result was announced, as we blocked most of the camera views. All but about two cameras were behind the crowd so I can believe it tbh. Personally I waved both the British AND EU flags together when the time came at the end.

It was clearly a clever ploy by those responsible, there's no political campaigning in progress currently and considering that we're not in a election or referendum period any removal of the flags would have been very dubious, especially if the terms of entry did not exclude them.

I'm not sure if it's just me but the quality of Melfest overall this year has been poor. Not just the songs, but also the content of the programme.
A lot of fans appear to be waiting on Mariette delivering next week...

Yeah, the show's taking a lot of criticism this year. Tabloid newspaper Expressen tends to become obsessed with the highs and lows of the show every year and produces lots of front page gossip content during the series. This year is no different, but it's pretty spot on. It's accusing the producers of watering the format down too much and turning Mello into a typical Nickelodeon daytime show. I think a bit of an overhaul will be on the cards next year, tightening up the sequences between performances, creating fewer 'funnies' that are starting to clutter the programme, and potentially bringing in some star TV presenters, rather than the usual roster of rotating ex-singers, like Mans and Lindgren. 2019 could be interesting!

I have to say this years Melodifestivalen has been distinctly underwhelming. The vocals seem to have been a bit off, the songs not that great (in general) and little in the way of game changing staging for which the show was known. There have been some nice lighting effects and some nice cutting (all automated via CuePilot I assume) but I couldn’t really believe the standard of the last episode - not one really decent song in my opinion.
Now, I don’t speak Swedish, but I get the distinct inpression that Fab Freddie is anything but Fab. And the ‘commercial break’ mid way through the show is clearly also meant to be comedic, but I’m not sure goes down terribly well. Maybe the audience effects aren’t high enough in the mix for me to hear the audience roaring along.
There’d better be something decent in the last heat otherwise it’s not going to be worth watching the final.
