I loved San Marion and I think Romania was quirky and lively- I prefer the lively songs not the dirge ones like Ireland and Belgium unfortunately

As Mel handed back to the stage for the interval act, it had already started behind her by at least 20 seconds but then they cut to the start. Are the links filmed during the rehearsals or have the BBC got the stream on a time delay? I don't really understand how they managed it.

I think there was a bit of breathing space between the end of when we saw the dance and the start of the Big 5 chat. So, even though it was delayed by 20 seconds or so, the green room talks were longer than 20 seconds (I'm pretty sure someone proposed!), that made us catch up.

I felt the second semi-final was better than the first, a bit more atmosphere in the arena. The hosts, however, are really starting to grate on me. I understand English isn't their first language but the constant "can you feel the tension" and looking at one another before revealing the results as if to say "are you ready" is just over dramatic and really doesn't add anything. A lot of phrases were recycled from semi-final one.

Every year I look forward to the postcards and I'm pretty disappointed with them this year. I can't really figure out what they've tried to do with the X Factor type wind tunnel effect at the beginning and the end. In some postcards the pose in the wind tunnel at the beginning mimics that of them in their natual habitat and for others it's just random. I guess they had a plan but looks like things were rushed in the end.

The sound effect coming out of the postcard and into the performance is also missing.

Saying that, still looking forward to the final.

The Eurovision Song Contest 2017 Second Semi-Final finished around 22:15 BST, and I can now reveal who's through to Saturday's Grand Final and who's already knocked out:

My desired qualifiers: Serbia, Austria , Malta, Denmark , Ireland, Croatia , Belarus , Bulgaria , Estonia, Israel .

Actual qualifiers (in order of announcement): Bulgaria , Belarus , Croatia , Hungary, Denmark , Israel , Romania, Norway, The Netherlands, Austria .

Bold entries represent the actual qualifiers that match my preferences.

OUT: Serbia, F.Y.R. Macedonia, Malta, Ireland, San Marino, Switzerland, Lithuania, Estonia.

Anyway well done to the ten countries which qualified for Saturday night's Eurovision Song Contest 2017 Grand Final, and commiserations to the eight countries which were eliminated this evening, but will nonetheless vote Saturday evening. That means all 26 finalists are now known.

My points of view about who's through and who's out are available here:

The BBC in London (who handle the opt-outs) would easily be able to time delay and turnaround the incoming feed from Kiev to allow them to cleanly hit items they want to show but avoid showing things they don't when they are taking the ad breaks (and on the non-voting semi final they traditionally leave after the first recap to avoid showing the songs you can't vote for multiple times)

The advertising breaks in the show are guaranteed to be a fixed duration so with some clever timing you can get back to the live show cleanly at the end of an ad break, even if you leave before the start of one. (The interval act and proposal were in the ad break, the Big Five chat was after it)

When you see the full screen 'Celebrate Diversity' graphics they signify the start or end of an ad break.

7 Moldova
8 Hungary
9 Italy
10 Denmark
11 Portugal
12 Azerbaijan
13 Croatia
14 Australia

17 Norway
18 United Kingdom
19 Cyprus
20 Romania

25 Bulgaria
26 France

Fantastic position for the UK. 18 is the average position of the winning song since televoting began.

Arguably an even better position for Bulgaria though. And he's Russian by birth. Just saying.

I think Bulgaria will win, and deservedly so. However it's not so clear cut. My feeling is the jury will rate the UK quite highly but the televoters less so. And possibly the other way around for Bulgaria.

Though Russia aren't in the contest this year, I guess there is always a whiff of phone vote manipulation (particularly in smaller countries where fewer votes would make a bigger difference)
