The preliminary dates for the contest clashed with Remembrance Day for the victims of the Crimean Tatar Genocide therefore the dates were adjusted by a week.

Returning to the uk entry for a moment, Lucie was on Breakfast and said there would be "slight changes" to the song following "feedback from Twitter." It's a very simple song, minimally staged but beautifully sung. It'll need to stand out, as the BBC gave it no gimmicky staging at all last week. That's no bad thing per sé, especially on a night full of pyrotechnics, acrobatics or projections. However after a minimalistic winner, the following year is often full of minimalistic performances and I do hope we're not falling into that trap. There's only six songs been chosen so far, but five of them are ballads already.

Going into that show my hope was the final song, which sounded most relevant to a modern Eurovision, would come off correctly. It didn't - it went wrong from the first note. Failing that, I was hoping for the one that sounded slightly reminiscent of Halo, or Lucie Jones. My main reason for being relatively happy with Lucie is that, while it hugely risks falling between the two stools of great and terrible and therefore not getting much attention, there's a limit to what the BBC can get wrong with it.
So I'm really hopefully they're not going to "slightly change" it to allow for the BBC's usual errors of focusing on a comedy drummer in the background and random backing singers no-one cares about, followed by some random pyro. If this song is going to work it requires relatively minimal staging - you can still do that and have a few gimmicks, see Poland last year. I know Poland bombed in the jury votes but the public lapped it up, Lucie is a better singer and has a big jury note near the end.

The Finland entry, recently announced, is similarly simple in staging to ours, but infinitely more captivating.

Not really a shock as the song was dull.

Melfest ....
Some technical issues tonight with late arriving graphics in the results segment. Some Kudos for host David Lindgren stripping to boxers in the interval act and remaining so for quite sometime.

Near riot in the RTVE studios when the final resulted in a tie, host lost it at one point, took several minutes to restore calm and get the professional jury to revote their choice. Then the singer of the winning song's guitar went AWOL for a good three minutes,
Chaos.
Meanwhile in San Remo RAI are still going at it hammer, tongs and guitars, post midnight, expecting a result around 0100 local.
